Ford's transmission in the hybrid Fusion, C-Max, Maverick, Corsair Grand Touring and Escape is an eCVT. It has no belts or pulleys like old fashioned CVTs. These eCVTs are very reliable and almost bullet proof. I had 102,000 miles on my hybrid Fusion when I sold it to a friend. Would not have sold it to him if I thought the transmission would cause him problems. My new Escape PHEV is a newer generation of the same eCVT. These eCVT transmissions are more reliable than conventional automatic transmissions.
Toyota's Synergy Drive uses a planetary gear setup in its cvt, and it's also where the electric motor resides. At least, that's the way our '07 Prius works. The car has been in our household for 11 years and 125k miles. My wife loves to drive it, and I love it because it hardly ever needs any attention. We live out in the country, so we don't get the full benefit of its fuel economy potential -- only about 47 mpg.

That's sweet the Rav4 Hybrid gets "only" around 46 to 47 mpg according to the dash meter

A bit late to the thread, I have a 2020 Escape Hybrid AWD and I can not tell when the gas engine kicks in unless I see the dash display. The power train is very fluid and it is quite responsive when accelerating. I like it and my wife loves it.

my wife got a Toyota Corolla Cross XSE Hybrid at the end of 2023 and it drives smooth. It's not a performance vehicle by any stretch, but it's adequate. I do notice a subtle difference in the punchiness of the electric motor and the gasoline engine, but it's not huge. The biggest difference is the sound and vibration that shows up when the gasoline engine kicks on.

If you really want it to, it'll punch off the line in electric only mode. Those torquey electric motors do well here. But it engages the gasoline engine sooner if you drive it this way. If you're easier on the gas, the electric motors propel it for a little longer.

Speaking to modern CVT's, her previous car, a Subaru Crosstrek, had one, too. Yeah, they're not exciting, but the ones we've had have worked reliably with no complaints. The Subaru had maybe 110k on it when it got traded in. Only work ever done on it was body work. That Subie also towed several thousand miles pretty close to its towing limit (1500lbs) before I got the Ranger and even with that being harder on transmissions, it did well. I wouldn't hesitate to get another car with a CVT if it met my needs. Don't have enough miles on the new Toyota to draw too many conclusions about it, but it seems solid.

I have no idea which engine the '23 Corolla hybrid has, but from what I've read the new Prius has a notable increase in power over previous models. A Motor Trend test timed 0-60 at 7.1 seconds. Our '07 is more like 10 seconds.
