I have installed a couple of inexpensive Pioneer GM-D1004 amps in the cavity above the glove box. There's lots of space up there for small Class D amplifiers:

Pioneer amps strapped together with a spacer to allow them to both breathe:

Installed in the cavity (hard to get a good pic from the side with everything stuffed in there):

It works well with the harness, but I have some fiddling to do with the amps. I tapped one of them into the harness, which worked, but I am getting a little noise so I am going to try a different constant power source.

Solved the noise problem with Forscan!

The first one enables variable line level audio output and it worked like a champ! The second one turns of factory EQ, in theory. I didn't try it yet but may tomorrow when I finish up.

Do you happen to know if there is a reverse signal wire in the radio wire harness?
Nope. It has your standard FL+, FL-, FR+,FR-, BL+,BL-, BR+,BR-, Power, Ground, Amp.

Nice. I was thinking of mounting my sub amp in that cavity in roughly the same area.

I think I'm done for a bit. I added a board to stabilize the amp stack and keep it from flopping when hitting bumps.

There's lots of breathing room behind there, so I hope they will stay cool enough. If not, I may tap a small hole in my passenger side vent to give it some airflow and blow a bit of cool air in there when the AC is on.

The guy from Safewireless, Ken, says thanks for confirming this works with the ranger. They have updated their ebay and Amazon pages with the Ranger as an option.

So does the line level output use the speaker wires? or do you need some other type of adapter?

No adapter needed IF you are using line level inputs on your amplifier. If you are using an amp that doesn't have line level inputs, you would need a line level converter.

For my application, I used the harness and the speaker outputs from the factory unit to input into the line level of my amplifier. The Forscan setting turns your factory output to variable line level. Without this setting in Forscan, I was getting popping and clicking during startup and wildly varying sensitivity on volume control.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I already have the Pioneer GM-D1004 amp and am just waiting for the 11ck no cut harness before I do the install. Definitely would prefer to use the low level instead of speaker level inputs/outputs.
