I've never had an issue with oneI have had to many of those fail over the years, they get harder and harder to use, and then the mechanism jams up and you need a screwdriver to pry open the door.

I was worried more about crime of opportunity rather than someone deliberately looking for trouble. Like kids/teens messing with it, or the guy that looking for the quick siphon but yeah someone that wants your gas can climb under the truck and punch the tank with a a toolPointless when the tank is so easy to access from the in front of the rear wheel.
I've had 5 Ford capless fillers (06 Escape, 2010, 2015 & 2018 F150, 20 Ranger). I've only had trouble codes on the 10 F150 after 205,000 miles. It just happens to be true that these Capless filler tops set codes at a rate at least an order of magnitude more often than a conventional cap.
Many times it is just a bit dirty, preventing a seal, but it often requires even more attention.
I don't expect to buy a locking cap.... I'll just put up with it. The Ranger has not set a code yet but my TC has. Just clean it and erase the code when it happens.
A shot of penetrating fluid or other lubricant as part of the regular maintenance normally prevents cables from seizing.I have had to many of those fail over the years, they get harder and harder to use, and then the mechanism jams up and you need a screwdriver to pry open the door.
Odd!... My '06 and '08 Escapes were both conventional caps.I've had 5 Ford capless fillers (06 Escape, 2010, 2015 & 2018 F150, 20 Ranger). I've only had trouble codes on the 10 F150 after 205,000 miles.
My last 2 regular capped vehicles both needed new caps to pass emission testing. The Buick needed a new cap 2 years later on the next emission test as well.
Capless causing more errors, let alone by an extra order of magnitude is not my experience.
Hmm. Now you're making me second guess that. It was a work vehicle and I also had an 11 Escape from the same company. I may have it backwards and the 11 was capless, the 06 capped. Either way, one of each and the capped one needed a new cap for emissions.Odd!... My '06 and '08 Escapes were both conventional caps.
We live in a comparitively clean environment and I have had several people come to me with the problem.
My TC has set the code a couple of times but my Ranger has not.
Or you get a citation from Post Patrol ?Don't say that...
Posts are always welcome...we just have a bit of fun sometimes when it's a re-hash of prior posts.
Don't get offended...we're just having a bit of fun n giggles .
I'm on it....its still early and gas thieves are lurking in the shadows....go....go out there and install it tonight.
