Question for the great knowledgeable folks here.
Been on a long road trip close to 5000 miles. After first 2000 started getting fuel smell. Searched here and a few other members had same issue after long trip no real reason determined just went away. Did same for me slowly went away just made the comment this morning about it.
Now for the question driving on I 90 200 miles from home truck starts bucking or surging with cruise set at 75. Have scan gauge trans temp good at 190, coolant at 198 and battery at around 13.6 rpm’s jumped up to around 3000. Not sure of gear was in 10th using tow mode might have dropped down to 8th when issue started. CEL started flashing slowed down to 60 and smoothed out. Pulled off next exit about 6 miles Ford dealer there. Checked codes and gave me these listed below are doing initial check now.
Trans temp went up to 205 after I pulled off. No fluid was blown out that I could see. Have MBS dipstick, but have not installed yet so not 100% sure on level no issues prior to this.Original battery never had any issue with it so far.

B1493 Ignition Cylinder Sensor Battery Short
B14A3
C1001
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
U0422 Invalid Data Received From BCM
U3003 Battery Voltage

Thanks for any help

As far as your trans temp is concerned....Ford advises that it's not at operating temps till it hits 210-215 degrees. Towed our heavy travel trailer and temps regularly hit 205-215 and I never worry about it.

Lot of codes for a misfire but believable. A miss can cause some fuel smell too.
Yes, that is what I worry about if they are fixing the symptom and not the cause. Warranty is covering it so no issue there. I have AAA with a 200 mile tow, and I am 197 miles from home so any other issues will just get it towed and figure it out later.
Was not worried about trans temp just a note. When driving hard and slow on long steep trails I sometimes hit 230 to 240 with no issues. Once back to normal driving it returns to normal temps of around 190 to 200.

Glad to hear that they got you back on the road. There are good dealers out there.

This was a good one, got me right in right away even when they appeared super busy. Also did proper a diagnoses by moving coil and plug to different places to isolate the issue. The good Lord was with us for sure, my wife did her Rosary prayer last night while driving. Pulled off interstate after about 6 miles from when it started, and first thing I saw was the big Blue Ford Oval.

Sometimes things work out. And ignition coils are tricky, some last 10 miles others last 200k. So it is common and explains all your issues. I think they treated the cause.

A misfire can cause fuel smell due to the pcv system putting that back into the intake. Smells can come out slightly. Especially fuel.

A miss can add stress to the transmission as well, its like fluttering the throttle. Could explain the higher temps. Especially under load when the coil is more likely to miss.

Coils can fail completely or go slowly bad and struggle with higher rpms so its harder to notice. I ohm test mine every 30k when I do plugs. My old F150 always had a spare in the glove box. Used it a few times honestly.

Yes, you definitely had some divine help I would say. Breaking down that close to an open dealership willing to help right away? Lucky.
