Doesn't the rc skidplate for the transmission happen to cover that area? If you have the money to burn, could be worth looking into.
It doesn’t. It’s back behind the transfer case skid plate. See picture, upper left area. The Ford transfer case skid plate is also in the same general area but also doesn’t cover it . What ever would have to be added could use the transfer case skid bolts to secure the front of it. And then go back about a foot.

Here’s the ad for the Tremor. They use some semi violent words LoL
https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2020/09/14/ford-ranger-tremor.html
That's sales propaganda to sell more trucks. If it was true the poster wouldn't be having problems. And it's obvious that any significant protection for the bottom is missing when sold. Further, as a different poster noted, the skid plates are so flimsy that they can be bent by hand. I put an OEM skid plate on my ranger and while it is a bit stronger than the aftermarket ones I am confident that if it gets bent I could bend it back by hand. While affording a bit of protection, they won't withstand being bashed against rocks. They are basically steel splash shields.

I have RCI skids on it now but the OEM ones held surprisingly after some robust abuse in rocks. Watch the video from Ford at the bottom of this marketing release.

There’s tons of YouTube videos from Ranger Tremor users that show the capabilities of it. I can also confirm this from personal experience with mine.

Oh and I am the original poster. I’m not having problems just trying to prevent an issue that has a potential to happen. Looking for advice from people who also use their truck as advertised and not from the road use only folks.

Thanks but we’re talking large sticks, logs and rocks mashing up in there. Actually breaking the connector. The two instances I know of were large sticks kicked up on trails.

It that is the case. build a skid plate. bolt it to the frame rail and box the connector in. But follow Grumpaw's advice on the contact cleaner and dielectric grease. I prefer DeoxIT D5 followed by DeoxIT Gold G5 for contact cleaner.

My old FJ40 had 3/16" steel skid plates.. HEAVY! It was a pain removing them to work on it. I took it all over the Colorado Rockies, across creeks and streams, and through muddy valleys, and sandy river beds. Of course the gas tank was under the passenger seat, and the wiring was far less complex than today's "computers on wheels" vehicles.

Computers like stable low humidity, mud free environments. Modern trucks aren't designed for that, no matter what the automaker claims. Humvees are... Ford Trucks? Not so much.

Your pictures sure look like fun. Best of luck to you!

I have a plan and I am going to build a shield. I just started this thread to see if anyone has already tackled it. I’m not touching that connector. I’ve already subjected it to plenty of gunk and it’s been fine. Truck also gets an annual Krown treatment. Just need to shield it from debris.

I have no doubt that you will succeed, and have fun doing it.

According to the user manual, Ford rates the ranger for "occasional light offroading only" if I recall correctly.

According to the Catholic Church, coitus isn't supposed to be had unless it's to produce offspring... and 'coveting' my neighbors hot wife from the bushes outside their house is also a no-no...

Some suggestions are better left ignored if one desires a fulfilling life.

Aye, To be frank the plates might not cover it directly but should definitely provide protection save for the off chance a stick or something suddenly learns how to aim.

I'm willing to bet a simple flat stock metal panel bent into an L shape would be all one needs.

One of the known failures had the skid plates setup in the picture. And it got nailed by a stick. I’ve got a piece of 4x4 aluminum angle coming and will use the transfer case skid bolts and one of my rock slider mounting bolts to secure it. Should be enough ?

Good stuff.
Don't have any random wiring harness connectors on my frontier(that I'm aware of).

Makes sense though for ford or any manufacturer, I swear only 1% of lifted trucks actually see off-road anyway. Probably have a higher chance of road kill ripping stuff out.

I used a piece of 4x4x1/8 aluminum angle to make a shield to protect the connector area. I used one of the transfer case shield bolts and one of my rock slider mounting bolts to secure it. Should do the job ?
