So in 24 years of driving I’ve never lost a pair of keys to a vehicle of mine, that was until Christmas Eve. (I’m a dumbass)
Anyways, I have a Tile attached to the keys and I’ve been watching them drive around town, but I can’t seem to figure out where they live.
I ordered some replacements (luckily I still have a backup pair) that I will get programmed, but here’s my question.
After looking online it appears that locksmiths can hook up to the vehicle and make it to where the old key fob won’t work? Is this true?
I know the key would still work, but if the key fob is disabled that would make me more comfortable, is this the case? Has anybody else ever had this happen or know a thing or two about the tech?
Or what options would you guys recommend? I’m not too worried about it, but my wife tends to run on the paranoid side, especially with the house keys being lost as well. The only reason I am kind of with her on this is because it seems like If the individual who found my keys (most likely in a REI) was an honest person, they would have turned them into a cashier or mall security or something. The places I am seeing this person go around town also aren’t in the nicest parts of town.
anyways, what would you do? Have them rekey the whole truck? Just get a new key fob and try to forget about it?
Thanks for any info you guys have.
