This is the perfect alternative to a Jeep. The 4Runner is in the mix too, but has slightly different ideals and still kind of on it's own. The Jeep people will still buy a Jeep, and there's nothing wrong with that. The Bronco may not, and probably won't, dethrone the Wrangler completely, but if someone wants a rugged go-anywhere off-roader then they at least have more than one choice now. And that's good.
It will definitely cut into the Jeep market a bit, but the FJ and 4runner are definitely in trouble.

I'm very excited to see what this does for 4x4 vehicles. Does Toyota bring back the FJ? This clearly scares Jeep, so they'll be forced to innovate.

I wonder what it will all look like in 5 years. I happen to be looking for a dedicated 4x4 so I'm excited as hell.
I don't know if "Jeep" is scared or not. That's been said several times. That's beyond my pay grade or interest. I do know that "Jeepers" aren't scared. I like it so far and invite all responsible wheelers to follow me on the trails!

I like it a lot. And love the possibility of a manual (wish the ranger had one). Little disappointed that it only comes in the two door, but I get it. I wouldn't mind having a base 2 door manual just for another fun toy. Don't know if my wife will go for it though. I'm not getting rid of the ranger or the mustang, and she'll be keeping her kia seltos. Not sure I can talk her into another car payment ha. As a jeep and ford guy, I don't see this "scaring" jeep too much, but it will cut into sales a bit. It would have to go a long way to dethrone jeep. I wish the price was a little better, but oh well. I'd like to see that base 2 door manual at about 26k, not 30k. Now that would make it much more competitive.

I suspect they find that quite scary, because they've basically structured themselves around being able to sell as many wranglers as they can make for whatever price they want to charge without any direct competitor, and using the unique status of the wrangler to sell the rest of the jeep lineup. Even a bit of a change could have a pretty big impact on the FCA balance sheet.

FCA has exactly two things keeping them afloat: Wranglers and trucks with the Cummins. Everything else they sell is just a byproduct (ex. Dad got a Cummins, Mom has a Durango)

Punch a hole in that plan and they're bankrupt for the...let's see...3rd? 4th? time

You could be right, I guess we'll know next year. My point I was trying to make I guess is that jeep guys are loyal to the brand (especially the off road guys), much like ford guys are to their brand. I just don't see a ton of crossing over from one brand to the other, but I could be way off. I just see it as maybe ford guys buying this instead of the ranger, or escape, explorer, etc. Who knows, I've been way wrong before though ha. When I say I like both brands, I'm saying I'm a jeep guy that built and owns a '68. I'm not a jeep fan of things that come from Fiat.

I absolutely agree that there are die-hard jeep fans just like there are for any brand. But FCA isn't selling upwards of 200k wranglers every year to just the true believers--that's something that started only a decade ago, and includes quite a lot of first time shoppers and casual lifestyle brand interest from people who want something that looks really tough at the mall and can't afford a g-wagen. If the number of wrangler sales in a competitive segment is more like what they were selling 10 years ago, FCA is screwed. And if FCA only sells wranglers to loyal "off-road guys", they're really screwed because that's a really tiny market.

(I don't actually think wrangler sales are going to immediately nosedive, but for sure the execs are taking the bronco seriously.)

Wondering if you once worked for FCA or they really pissed you off somehow. ?

I have to believe a lot of the die hard Jeep guys took a bit of a hit with the loss of the 4.0L and design changes. Them putting an 8 in would help, but that new powertrain isn't great and it replaced a legend. I think with another option and one as nice as the ranger platform and every jeep advantage will sway a lot of people.

Toyota is definitely taking notice.

no, why do you ask? I don't think I've said anything unreasonable.
No you didn't. You just have a strong opinion. Brand loyal folks usually do. No problem with that. I approach things differently is all. By the way, the bronco looks great. Just curious ?.

I don't have any brand loyalties. Only once have I bought two different cars from the same brand, and those were 30 model years apart and completely different segments so one didn't really have anything to do with the other. My approach is to make the best decision I can based on the information available. I guess your different approach is to just make something up?
