That is my first guess as well since the rest of the infotainment seems just fine.
The camera going bad won't affect the infotainment system...except display distorted feed from failing camera....

Retired engineer.
My old 2010 Mercury Milan had a backup camera that was displayed in the rear view mirror.

It would periodically go to a "snowy" screen like an old off-the-air TV. I found that a good whack to the trunk lid would bring it back. I finally tired of this and took it to the dealer. They replaced the camera (bring out the "parts cannon"), but it did it again.

My SIL and I found that there was a connector in the trunk lid. We spayed the contacts with CRC contact cleaner and loaded the contacts with dielectric grease. Never had the problem again up until I traded it in.

I mention this as a possibility. I don't know where the in-line connectors are in the Ranger, but there may be one associated with the tailgate.

The other possibility is that the camera is defective/damaged. I am not a big fan of putting vulnerable parts in a tailgate, such as CMHSL or cameras that get slammed closing and opening (at least without the damper).

There is a connector for the camera at the tailgate. You should also have a plug cap in the glove box for when you remove the tailgate.
