I know...tell me about it...some days I get in and it doesn't see my phone no matter what. Other days the volume control stops working until I go to messages and back to Pandora...if I crash due to this I'm going to sue the hell out of Ford:punch:

Just an update to part of this problem. I ended up updating to 3.4 with poor results and then had an issue where it does not recognize the phone at all. Sync still kinda sucks overall but I think I fixed the phone not recognized issue. Sometimes I would be driving for 10 or 15 minutes before it would show the phone charging and then carplay comes up. Anyway, I googled the issues and came across threads where people were replacing their usb ports in order to add carplay to Fusions and f-150's that didn't have it. So I thought my problem seemed like intermittent problems with the ports themselves. So rather than taking it to ford and have them tell me they can't reproduce the problem, I took a chance and spent $50 for a replacement usb port module. Put it in last night and so far every time I have started the truck, carplay comes right up. I am now using a cplay2air for wireless carplay which I already knew worked because I tried it in our Honda Passport with no issues. If anyone is looking to add wireless carplay this one works great. It also kind of explains the issue where not all artists or albums showing up. If the USB ports are intermittent, then getting that info from the phone would be problematic. I have been updating sync with syn3 updater chasing this problem with no results. Currently running 3.4.21020 which seems to have introduced a problem with sirius where the audio just stops. If I go to FM and then try to go back to sirius, it just won't change the source. I can tap the sirius button on the screen and nothing happens. If I give up, usually next time I start the truck after it has sat for awhile it works. Otherwise rebooting sync is the only thing fixes it. Anyway, if you are having the issue where the system doesn't acknowledge the phone is even plugged in, try replacing the USB port module. The part number is HC3Z19A387E.

My Mustang was finicky regarding Apple CarPlay being on and Bluetooth being connected. My Ranger won't even connect to the phone via BT if it's connected via CarPlay now. Go figure...

I have no issues with CarPlay. I can't stand Android Auto... just the organization is not "in car user friendly" to me. But maybe I'm dense. Anyway, my issue is the low-grade screen in these Rangers. Compared to my Jetta... it sucks. And because the license plate lights shine right at the camera at night, nighttime visibility is terrible with it. Gets washed out. But I digress...

Yes the screen is pretty bad. The one in the Passport is high res and very bright. Honda's infotainment system (accord, passport, pilot) is fast and free from any consistent glitches.

Are you sure you have all the updates? It took several key switch recycles and updating from the Sync Wi-Fi screen for all the updates.

Look at what apps you have on your carplay, offload any unused ones a lot of times if an app has carplay support it will automatically add it to your carplay screen. I had an issue where waze was screwing with carplay BADLY, removed waze and all was solved, have not had an issue with it since. I am also using the cplay2air dongle for wireless carplay and have had zero issues.

I've actually thought about that today. Is it possible that it only partially got updated? The version shown is the version I last installed. However since it was the usb ports that were the problem and those are the same ones that are used to do the updates, maybe that is part of the software problems I am having now. There is a newer version on syn3 updater that I may try.

The only ones that show up are the standard ones like maps and google maps, phone, messages, etc. I use Amazon music so that is there. I have had the 'prompt volume' problem that some have attributed to Waze, but have never had that app installed.

Go through the SYNC screen in setup and do a software update and see if it's completed. Be prepared to spend some time doing these updates, mine took hours and recycle the key switch multiple times.

That's the worst part of doing it every time a new one comes out. It takes a long time, although maybe some of the time it took mine was because of the bad ports. I spent all summer last year without the climate controls on the screen until a new version came out that fixed that. I am kind of hesitant to try the new one on syn3 since carplay is working properly now and I don't want to jinx it. I still need to update the maps too.
