I do not spend much time camping however over the last couple of years starting hiking like a mad man... got my 5 of the 48 4K mountains in NH and eager to do more....

That being said - after scouring the forums it seems you all are WAY more technical than I am regards to camping in your trucks....

Anyone have any luck crashing in the back of your 5' bed with a truck cap? Basically just for 1 night at a clip?

Basic question - has anyone been able to use a Coleman Comfort Smart Camping Cot or something like that, even an air mattress in the back...

Hi! I’ve don’t have my Ranger yet but I do have a a SuperCrew on order with a 5’ bed and I placed a deposit on an A.R.E. Shell. I’m 6’1” and am planning on buying the Nomad from TopperEZ lift. Seems like the best priced option to get you in the back for a night or two.

I have the Super Cab with 6' Bed and overnight in it during road trips. I have 2 layers of 2" foam to lay down then a sleeping bag and do fine even with my old bones. I sleep in various parking lots and parks etc and have no issues. As you say I do not make this complicated just roll it out and lay down, no beds, racks or slides just do it. My Son and I took a Road Trip a few years ago from Ohio to Prudhoe Bay Ak in my old 2004 Ranger and did just this both of us sleeping in the back about 1/2 of the time and a tent or hotel the balance. For that trip I made a raised platform so we could store gear under it. Yes nothing like a 10,500 mile trip in a STD Cab small Ranger to bring us closer and by the end we even knew the sweet spot on where to place foil wrapped food on the engine to heat up our next meal. I need to dig out some pictures of that trip, Good Times!

Sorry I do not intend to hijack the post but I found a few pictures of camping in the back of the 2004 with a cap on the way Ohio to Alaska. I bought the cap used on Craig's list for $200. Never posted a Picture before so crossing my fingers.

Yeah I’m really hoping to emulate something like this when my truck and shell get here toward the summer! Once all my stuff comes I’ll get pictures up.

I have a supercab (6' bed) with a canopy and a "Decked" drawer system that I use specifically for camping. Ive spent multiple nights in it last year and just got back from 2 nights in it. With the drawer system, there isnt a ton of head room but its actually a very cozy place to sleep, and my favourite part is that I never need to pack anything or get my bed ready.

I am half tempted to try sleeping in the bed with my Bakflip MX4 bed cover since I can open it from the inside. I have a wide insulated mat I use when I car camp to soften things up a bit. Can't sit up obviously but it will be warm weather on this dads camping trip coming up in July (Utah).
