I believe this is one of the next projects I want to attempt but I'd like to pick anybody's brains on this website who have done this.

Cutting the vent openings is the simple part just had some general inquiries about optimized spots where we don't want water directly impacting particular items under the hood.

So just to give you a idea. I made my hood scoop on my Shelby functional. It came with a cosmetic hood scoop but I turned it functional which actually helped dramatically on heat release. My hood had the area available to be cut out. I then used blind rivets and then stainless button head allen fasteners to dress it up. It turned out well.

Not on the Ranger. If I did it, I'd look to get louvers in a kit or a scoop. You also have to be careful about not cutting the struts under the sheet-metal skin.

I should clarify they will be louvers aimed at extraction, not intake.

It has been done, but no idea if anyone who is a member here has done it.

I like those . We did many such hood modifications when I had my business. Use a couple layers of masking tape on the area that will be cut out and draw out your cut lines perfect. Use a quality jig saw with a fresh blade for each side and just take your time. Cover the bottom plate of the jig saw with masking tape also.

I might install these on my factory hood that is hanging on my garage wall then ask $1000 for it on Facebook marketplace ,lol.

Those look good.

I just wonder about water intrusion since there doesn't seem to be any water guides in the kit.

Maybe unnecessary with the Ranger.

I know some of the hood louvers on Jeeps have the water guides that almost completely cover the bottom of the vent, thus removing a lot of their heat extraction potential ie, the Grand Cherokee 5.9.

The tray is spaced away from the hood so heat can get around them, but they still look like they would block a lot of heat from escaping.

I would not do this. What's the purpose?

Looks? Chances are it Will look like a Boomer hack mod (You have influenced me to use that word more and more..)

Engine Heat Extraction? You were not on the 5G Ranger Powertrain Engineering Team. They put a nice radiator with some good coolant, prefilled for your convenience, already so they did that work for you.

"Hey man, will you trade for this 20 year old rusty jon boat?"

"I'll give you $50 for it cash in hand right now"

You know it. I know it. Anyone who has used FBMP knows it.

(edit: or maybe I'm thinking of craigslist)

The people battling to keep water from getting in via that weird cowl design may have passed out seeing the massive holes in the hood.

That or would add more engine covers all over the engine bay.

The craigslist lowballers have moved en masse to the FBMP.

I have...on my MINI Cooper tho...it depends heavily on the under hood brace structures...mine was very functional but I dare not get caught sitting in the rain....
