5G ARE cap on a 6G

I recently upgraded from my 5G and kept my cap hoping to use it on the 6G. Turns out all that is needed is the rear black reinforced plastic cover/tail gate adapter piece for about $225. It comes as a kit with rivets and 2 new seals. Took about 30 minutes to remove/replace. If you are thinking of upgrading and keeping the color or find a deal on a used cap just know the ARE cap I have fits just fine, can’t answer for other brands. I can send better info or pictures if it’d help ya.

Thats good to know, i suspect transferring a Leer one over would be similar. Too bad I don't think the wife will let me upgrade to a Ranger Raptor haha

That bottom door piece needed to accommodate the shape of the tailgate is called a door "shroud".

Here are the pictures. The shroud replaced and the inside of my clamps needed to have the inner lip ground off for proper figment. The kit ordered had the shroud, 1 sticky backed seal, 1 loose seal and 8 rivets included. Drill out the rivet heads and the shroud pops right off. Put the loose gasket in place and start setting the rivets making sure all rivets fit and the loose gaskets remains in between the shroud and aluminum door before setting the rivets. Took about 30 minutes

Thanks for the pics! The fitment looks great and good to know the tops swap out minus the back trim panel.

Is that a XF lurking in the background? Looks lowered too? I was a Jaguar tech in years past, Im a big fan.

It is an XF, 2012, V8, 39k mi and unsure on if it’s lowered. It will be for sale in the spring. It’s a gift from my wife’s ailing Father. We don’t have any use or space for another vehicle. I’ve driven it maybe 20 miles, seems like a nice car. Fresh from sunny AZ!!

Great info. I hope you take as much care when you install those Halo cans.

I was swapping out the silver trim bezels on the 4” pots at my new place and when pushing the new white trim bezels into place in the bedroom, the cans pushed straight up into the ceiling. Crap! Just because it can be banged into place, doesn’t mean it’s secure. Arrrgh!

Up into the attic I went, hammer, 1/4” driver, screws, light, and N95 mask in hand, digging through blown cellulose to get to the cans. As expected, they were not installed properly - two had only one of the four built-in “nails” banged into the ceiling joists, one had two, and a third had none - WTF?. I anchored them further with screws.

Took about thirty minutes of cussing and another thirty to do the work. ?
