Why?
I'm bored and having a beer while the pit warms up.
I spent a week in a loaner that had a sticker of 47k (it was in the glove box) vs 30k sticker. Almost the exact same mileage on both.
Power/Engine: It seems the explorer has 30 more horsepower stock. So I didn't feel the extra weight. If anything it felt quicker at times/situations but that was likely more to do with the next bit of this compro (that no one asked for).
Note: I saw the same mpg range doing the same sort of driving.
Transmission: ::edit:: r60 vs r80 but with equal miles it was waywayyy smoother and tended to lug the engine less at slower speeds (sport mode felt the same as the trucks sport mode).
Handling: if they had a mood room when designing that thing... The inspiration behind how it handle/feels must have been a brick. While the ranger might be a bit under dampened; it felt way more nimble to me. Especially not being as wide. Also less harsh on just about any bump, etc.
Brakes. I far prefer the post forscan bled ranger pedal to the on/off switch at the top of pedal travel thing the explorer uses.
The interior is sort of hard to compare because XLT truck vs more optioned SUV. So it's heated seats get a win but the explorer dash looks weird to me. Like someone stuck the information screen on as an afterthought.
Final thoughts. I'd take my Kia Sedona as a family hauler any day.. sorry explorer owners. Maybe the v6 turbo would change my mind. Glad my truck is back and the loaner is with someone else now.
