Just curious if anyone has seen any Sync oddities on newer Rangers. I've discovered that my brand new 2023 Lariat FX4 Splash has an issues with maps, the Sync unit says I have map version NA 2 20; seems pretty odd to to me put a 3 year, out of date map, on a brand new vehicle. Sync Support says I should have NA 2 21 installed and I need to check for updates. Ford's Sync Update site tells me that the SYNC Version 3.4.21194 I have is the most current version of Sync 3, but I've seen and read that newer versions of Sync exist. So am I current, or not?

When I check the Sync3 Map Update page I get a really weird error message, "InvalidModelYear(<2010): The vehicle’s model year is not eligible for a Sync 3 map update. Please check the VIN. If you feel that the information is incorrect, please visit navigation.com.(012)." So apparently my 2023 Ranger is actually <(less than) 2010? Apparently both Ford and I have my VIN number and or model year wrong. Even better, the referred website is to mapmaker HERE.com and after calling them, they apparently no longer support 2022 or 2023 map updates for the Ranger. They were equally confused by the fact that I have NA 2 20 when they released NA 2 21 for the 2021 Rangers?

Anyone else seen anything like this? Almost seems like I have an earlier that 2021 model APIM installed.

Map update: NA 221 is the most current version as of today
It was released in October 2022
Don’t get tripped up on the date
As far as the error - invalid year - I had the same for my 22- basically it takes time for your VIN number to fully integrate into Fords system and update- you may find that if you search for parts on fords website - it will return with invalid VIN number
I think it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for your VIN to fully integrate the system

This is actually something that the dealer should have done as it’s part of the PDI
Pre Delivery Inspection
So, yes both your Sync and Map are out of date and not current version- it’s not a big deal - but may be a blessing as some owners are having major issues with current Sync version. I have none so far, but monitoring closely.
Word of advice- when you get fully integrated into the system- do ALL updates via USB - OTA updates are problematic and take forever to complete. USB , 20 minutes or so - for each update.

I know, it's the having Map Version NA 2 20 from 2020/2021 that's tripping me up. Especially when Ford says I should have NA 2 21 installed per my VIN.

Well, my truck was built 12/22 and delivered 02/23, so I'm kinda thinking that after all these months, my VIN should have been integrated, especially since as finicky as Ford Parts has been, it recognizes my VIN immediately. I always use USB so do my upgrades since MySync would never work OTA, but since the Ford Sync site doesn't recognize my VIN, I can't download the USB package.

Map updates can be a year or 2 behind depending on build date. SYNC and map updates are not updated during PDI. Map upades are also at customer expense.

My first Map update was free- download and install - if I chose to purchase the USB with it installed- it was 40 bucks
So for the upcoming update in September/ October IDk if it will be free or charge
From what I remember it was 1 or 3 years for Free Map updates.

Map updates have always been free for the first year as far back as the old Microsoft MyFord Touch as far as I know if there was a map update under warranty. My 2007 Edge got free map updates via Ford SD card for three years. Our 2016 SHO and 2019 Explorer never had a map update release their first year, but our 2018 F 150 got a free update. In this case, even the Ford Sync rep said NA 2 20 should not have been shipped on a 2023 model year vehicle, ALL 2023s should have been shipped with the most current (NA 2 21) map data; and according to their records, my Ranger "should" have been shipped with NA 2 21 installed. Which is why this is an oddity. Well, that and the fact their system identifies my VIN as being pre-2010...
