I suspect that most of the people complaining about the lack of options wouldn't actually add 6k to the cost of a lariat to add one, which has got to be a factor for Ford.

I may have been tempted to order a bigger engine if it was offered because I did not test drive one before ordering (but not at $6K). That said the 2.3/10sp combo is damn near perfect for that truck and I'm quite happy with its power and acceleration.I suspect that most of the people complaining about the lack of options wouldn't actually add 6k to the cost of a lariat to add one, which has got to be a factor for Ford.
Mc Donalds sells a lot of hamburgers too......I know where you are coming from. I was a Tacoma defender for 15 years through four of them. The 2016 was the worst of the bunch. It's a dog that needs the OVTune just to make it viable....The proof is the 46,000 responses to the OVTune thread over there. The longest thread is about beefing up the stock engine. I have never heard "They all do that" from Toyota service more than I did with the 2016.But then I pass you by in my 4banger turbo
Why is this now a Tacoma bashing ceremony?
For every 1 Ranger sold, 10 Tacoma owners say theirs is better.

To my knowledge, the current 2.3 in the Ranger is detuned from the Focus RS? My dad has the Focus RS that comes with 300 something HP and he has tunned it and is now getting 410 HP. With that said, it would seem logical that this engine with a tune should be able to hit 400 hp or something close to that.It would be pretty nasty, but honestly the 2.3 in this truck even with 4x4 SuperCrew gets it. Once some parts start hitting the aftermarket, or some shops unveil what they are currently working on I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. 400+ HP is not out of the question with bone stock internals with these engines
The Diesel is 100% going to be an option in the Ranger, Its already a done dealI went to the 2019 Detroit auto show for the Ranger and GT 500 ( drool ). I've been in love with the truck since they announced it and fell in love even more seeing it first had and sitting in it dreaming of the day it's mine! Anyway, I was in a small show with the big wigs and noticed two guys wearing a nice jacket with the ranger sewn on. I had the opportunity to have a quick conversation. One of them didn't want to talk at all. The other guy was super happy to talk about it. I could tell he was one of the head engineers. He asked what my favorite features were, we bounced back and forth. Before walking away I asked, will the Ranger ever have a diesel? He smiled real big and said, were exploring many power options. When Ford releases a Diesel Ranger, I will have one!!![]()
