We recently dropped an AMP Bed XTENDER HD Max into our 2019 Ranger Project Truck. That video is now up on our YouTube Channel.

Honestly, I'm not usually a huge fan of these things. They're nice for large, long cargo, but just about anything else can slip through their bars. Still, with a SuperCrew 5ft bed truck, it's nice to be able to squeak out a little more usable length.

One thing not shown in the video is that the Xtender itself pops pretty easily in and out of its hinge brackets, which does let you get it out of the way for loading and then popping it back on for holding your stuff.

Hey, I appreciate your video. I'm gonna copy/paste my question from YouTube over to here:

Will this actually secure a heavy load? It looks like the only point of contact with the truck bed is the mounting bracket where it pivots and the little tie-down straps to keep it from flipping up. Am I missing something?

I occasionally haul about 500 lbs of 7' long wood sheets, and I'm concerned they would overpower this product under acceleration. I called AMP and the guy assured me it would be safe, but I wasn't clear on why he seemed so confident. Every pic/video I've seen makes it look like the entire system is supported by the plastic nub that fits into the mounting bracket and the tie downs. That's not confidence inspiring.

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

They're fairly large nubs/mounting points, to be fair. Secondly, you're distributing that load between both points, so you're only talking about a maximum of 250lbs each.

Frankly, I think you'll be fine. The only issues these tend to have is with loads that aren't properly secured that give them a good whack all of the sudden.
