I don't think that the build date alone necessarily determines what gets replaced. It puts you in "Procedure Group A" in the TSB, but from there, it's a step by step process. My build date was pre-August 2022. After scanning for DTC's, they perform "Main control valve body step 1". If they...
I'm definitely not looking for the gas savings to pay/cover the cost.....not quite expecting or needing that, it's just that if I am going to take on a 2nd vehicle, I want something efficient. I don't want to spend money on a vehicle that costs more than the Ranger to maintain and operate.
I...
I'm checking them out now....did you have the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?
Just found a 2012 XLT Escape. Clean, 1 owner, 111K miles, 4 cyl 4wd for $7K
Also found a 2009 XLT. 1 owner, 82K miles, 6cyl, 4wd for $7K
I've seen some Si's in my price range. I saw a decent looking hatchback with like 120K miles for $7500. I just tried to find it to post the link, and I can't find it....it probably sold. But they're out there. However, I gotta think they're more to insure.
I should probably call my insurance...
Too many miles on that one for me.
I like the 4 runners, but for $8,500, I can find a Toyota or a Honda with half (or probably less than half) of that mileage. I also don't need 4wd, and I'd like something that can get at least 25ish mpg.
Here's a one owner loaded Avalon with 76k miles for...
I've owned enough Hondas, I'd be ok with an older one if the price was right. I recently saw a MINT, pampered, garaged 2000 Civic with like 50K miles for $5-$6K. I also saw a 99 Accord with 55K miles for $7K. A little older....but if the timing belts were done, they still probably run like new...
My ex wife and I just had to dig into our insurance to add our daughter. I assumed it would be cheaper for my ex to add her to her policy. She has a 2014 Acura MDX with nearly 300k miles. I have a 22 Ranger with 35k miles and a used Pilot with high miles. Same insurance company, we both have...
Yeah, insurance is also a factor. The cheaper the better. That's something else I always price out before buying and some cars oddly and randomly cost more.....
Yeah, I've never actually driven one, but I've eyeballed them quite a bit. They definitely fit the budget with lots available under $10K. I briefly considered one back when I got my Pilot. I've never seen a "nice" one locally to drive or check out. I'd be curious what they feel like compared to...
There are Hondas out there under $10k. They might be 10-20+ years old...and likely Civics and CRVs....but there are some clean used ones to be had if you're patient and willing to take time searching. Those little old lady garage kept cars do indeed exist. I found an older Accord LX with 55K...
I think I've decided to buy a 2nd vehicle. It's nice to spread the miles out and I keep cars until they aren't worth fixing.
I've always had 2 vehicles. I owned a Honda Accord and an F150 together for about 15 years, and when the Honda hit 300K miles in 2016 it needed over $1k in miscellaneous...
I will say that there has absolutely been a night and day difference since I got it back. It feels great. The valve body overhaul most definitely cleared up the issues I experienced. I have felt a couple of goofy shifts since, but NOTHING like before.
However, you could be right and time will...
Interesting. Those tires and flares F it up for me, but otherwise, I think I like it.
There's a Tacoma in here with an older look....don't hate it either. I think it would look great in black.

I bought a generic one from Amazon a few years back and have used it a handful of times. Definitely easier than cables. Does the trick.
Mine is very similar to this one, which is $60 bucks...
The CDF is essentially Step 2 of the recommended TSB procedure. The valve body overhaul is Step 1 (after checking for codes).
If the valve body overhaul doesn't correct the issue, they'll move forward with the CDF cylinder replacement.
For mine, the valve body overhaul fixed the issues (so...
I hope you didn't jinx yourself.
Honestly, I think a lot of Ranger owners are in your boat. You have a few years of ownership, but 25k miles is still practically new. Hopefully the next 25K miles are equally uneventful for you.
Looks great. Thanks for posting. I have the same truck (grey lariat with the black 18s) and am looking at beefier tires. I have the stock 265/60/18s now but will probably be replacing them sometime next year.
How much did your mpg decrease?
Also, with the Eibach kit and those tires, does it...
