  1. Tow longevity

I've towed at max capacity quite a bit going back and forth between jobsites. The Ranger tows like a champ and I would be very surprised if you were able to blow it up without any modifications.
  2. My perfect Ranger with an imperfect transmission...

It's hard to speculate what the issue could be without being a 10R80 expert but hopefully it's something small that can be easily serviced. One of the reasons I bought my Ranger was the logic that the 10R80 could handle anything and more than the 2.3 could throw at it. I've towed extensively at...
  3. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

Update: The dealer finally had a chance to look at the front diff leak. As expected, the pinion seal and flange has failed and they don't have the parts to fix it. The service rep. claims they can't even order the part as it's "unavailable," so they will have to reach out to Ford corp. to figure...
  4. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

Yes, I've never had an issue towing at max capacity. I think the 7,500 number is fairly conservative... depending on shape/wind resistance of your trailer.
  5. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

The trailer weighs right around 4k. I've never weighed it on a scale. The Ranger pulls that setup very nicely with the combination of the redarc brake controller.
  6. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

Update: I'm at 37,000 miles now... shouldn't be too long before 50k comes up.
  7. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

I'm not really sure if running top tier fuel would make a difference in regards to the intake valves. The whole issue being that they're not washed with fuel like a port injected setup would be.
  8. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

Update: I took my truck into the dealer this week hoping that they would top off the differential oil and I was turned away with the explanation being that it was "very difficult to just top it off." The service rep clearly had zero mechanical experience and at that moment I realized that...
  9. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

You might want to look again to pinpoint were exactly the oil is coming from. The oil channel coming from the filter was dry on my truck. The only oil drip I was able to find was right at the bottom of the front differential casting... and the oil itself was clearly gear oil rather than motor oil.
  10. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

Both the dealer and ford corporate didn't seem to care that this could possibly destroy the front differential. I thought about trying to order the seal as well... BTW this may sound creepy but I know where you live. You're the only other guy in my area with a black tremor lol. I built a house...
  11. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

I'm glad they at least recognize they have some major problems. Introducing so many new models in a short span of time is bound to result in some quality fumbles. I love this truck but I'm looking forward to ordering a 6g. Hopefully they will have a good launch on that one...
  12. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

Thanks... I'm almost certain this is the issue. Can't believe they're failing with such low mileage.
  13. Leaking from front differential at ~1100 miles

Sean, Did the dealer ever say what caused the leak? It looks like my truck just developed a leak from the same spot. Thanks, Ted
  14. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

I checked to make sure engine oil wasn't leaking from the oil filter or drain plug and both were dry. I too had the same concern about running out of oil in the front diff and possibly causing damage. I opened a case with Ford corporate explaining that the shops were backed up and that I didn't...
  15. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

No... I use 4WD a handfull of times during the winter.
  16. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

No, it was a light brown and very thick... all signs point towards gear oil.
  17. Here we go... She's sprung a leak

Well, I guess this will be the first major issue I've had with my Ranger. I peaked under my truck today after noticing some Oil drips on the pavement and it appears that the front diff. has sprung a leak. From what I can see, it seems like the seal between the half shaft and front diff. is...
  18. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

I use Regular 87 octane. I don't have any sort of preference towards brand.
  19. What's "all new" about the 2024 2.3L EcoBoost?

Unfortunately I doubt we're going to get the in-depth details about the 2.3 that we're looking for. The good news is that we know they're bringing the motor up to speed with the other ecoboost engines (as far as tech goes). Dual injection will be nice and I assume it will make a little bit more...
  20. Carbon buildup at 25k miles - A short story

Hopefully when I take another picture at 50k we'll be able to see if the stem is building up more carbon or not. At the rate i'm driving that'll be sometime next spring.
