As you can tell by my handle, I'm a Jeep guy.
I'm also at a place in my life that I could have purchased any truck.
For my young family, as a daily, and hoping to get 15 years minimum service life, I chose a Ranger Tremor.
I am a research nut, and sifted through all the issues. If you look...
Let's put this whole thread in perspective...
Spendy or not, I bet that Roush Ranger is still a better bang for the buck compared to the used-bone-stock 2020 Tacoma TRD off-road selling for $60k at my local dealership.
Remember who the real enemy is.
I have a blue Tremor, And there's a dude in downtown Eagle River that has a blue FX4. So that's all I've seen.
There's a legit black one decked out in Wasilla
I never lost the snow we had in Sept. Plus the weight of it on the leaved trees destroyed half my birch trees. Looked like a winter hurricane came through.
And the snow never melted. Granted, I'm on the dark side of a mountain.
Alaska winter darkness sucks.
I was never a fan of red... Always reminded of a firetruck. Or like a volunteer firefighter's truck. Which isn't a bad thing, just flashes back to trashy people in my childhood
Anyways.... I'd go white. It's easier to match with accessories as it doesn't clash with anything.
Plus, with white...
I crossed shopped your options and ended up with the Ranger by a large margin.
I like Tacomas, but they aren't comfy and the V6 was mediocre... actually terrible for a truck application.
I don't think the Colorado really competes at all with the Ranger or Taco, at least with what I value...
Fellow Alaskan here.
I run Hankook iPikeX studs on my Tremor. Absolutely love them.
Good luck studding and unstudding tires seasonally. Shops won't do it for you, you'll need extra tools to do it properly on your own, you'll wear your tread down too fast in a season or two and then toss your...
Not disagreeing with that...
I just want to shed light on new tests and information that sorta busts the old myth of "4wd doesn't help you stop" because it's not fully true.
But God forbid people can't say "neat, thanks for the info" on the internet
No.... Well yes.... Maybe...
Basically, Rally School proves 4WD actually helps stopping. More of a phenomenon than anything. Driving in the Arctic, I've also experienced this.

I would highly recommend getting on YouTube and watching a bunch of Engineering Explained videos.
Things to understand to really know the "why"...
-4wd/4x4 vs AWD
-transfer case (vs clutch packs vs viscous couplings, etc)
-differentials (locked vs open vs limited slip)
This is a good starter...
I'm with Jason B, I'd much rather have a Plug Hybrid for a truck. But that's just me.
But I'm all for the competition.
Side note: I actually love the look of the Rivian. Also agree this Toyota looks better than the current Taco. I think it's because the front end is cleaner and not as tacky/chunky
Title is click bait. But I kinda like it.
Yes, my Tremor and I live in Alaska. But it's really just an appeal to authority to make it sound so much cooler and more extreme.
And as a build, well, I'm not going crazy. I've grown to hate accessories... I don't need my truck to look like I'm a...
The standard suspension is mediocre at best. It bounces and shimmies. I swore off the Ranger when I test drove one in '19 for that reason.
The FX4 suspension is good. After test driving one to compare it to a Nissan Frontier, I got back on the Ranger train in '21.
The Tremor suspension is...
