I'm sure it was the cold that was the catalyst. When the fob is in my pocket it works fine. Being out in the cold for hours is what caused it. Either way, almost 5 years on the original battery is pretty good - I'm changing it out.
I'm about ready to take the same approach with the truck...
Well, we don't get snow too often - this was taken over 4000' above where I live, about 50 miles from my house.
In a normal year, we might see snow once or twice and it is usually only a couple of inches. Every so often, we get "snowmageddon" when we get more than a couple of inches...
I always say that I could spend the night - I wouldn't be horribly comfortable but I would be able to survive the night with no problem. I've never needed it, but I do know a couple of people who have had to spend an unplanned night in the woods.
I have the big one - the Inreach Explorer +...
The hitch safe has worked really well for me for about 4 years now - until the battery on the fob starting getting weak. I actually considered the door buttons, but I didn't like the "stick on" look of them.
I'm not an ultralight for my day hikes - I carry WAY too much stuff - too many years...
Today I put the key blade (with my other keys) on a clip in a special pocket in my pack so that if this happened again I could at least get in the truck and it should start by using the fob in the cup holder. I think I'm going to continue doing that going forward.
This all started a number of...
Not that I didn't believe you, but you guys got me wondering if all the fobs took the same battery. I opened mine up and apparently the answer is NO:
It appears the Lariat fob uses a CR2450
Wow - thanks for posting this. I was out again today and it wasn't as cold as last week, but first press again did nothing - I held it in my hands for a few seconds and then the locks unlocked. It certainly appears I need to replace the battery soon.
Does anyone happen to know what number I...
I think the majority for the slow selling is because you can't sell what you aren't making - they cut production way back on Rangers to push out more Broncos.
But yeah, you wonder where the demand is coming from.
I regularly get to 4-5000', but not much higher usually. I'm guessing mine got a bit hotter a few times - I've been in some pretty deep snow and worked it pretty hard but I didn't have the monitor at that point so I don't know how hot it did get. But given what I have seen, it does seem to...
I have the Lariat with the HUGE fob - and yes, there is a key blade in the fob, however I have to remove that (I leave that piece in the truck) so the fob will fit in the hitch safe. I may re-think that approach. If this happens again, if I had the blade I could get in the truck and put the...
That's crazy! I got mine up to a little over 200, but as soon as I stopped winding the piss out of it, it came back down very quickly. It runs under 200, usually under 190 and it takes quite a while to get there. Around town trips it will barely get to 180.
What is "plenty hot"? I ask because I've had a hard time getting the trans up to the temp the manual says is required to check the fluid. The only way I was able to do it was to lock out all the gears, run it at like 4 grand RPM for a while - then the trans got into the correct temp zone...
A little background - I go hiking frequently and don't want to lose my keys while hiking and be stuck, so I have a hitch safe where I put my key fob when I'm hiking. It works great. Last weekend I went hiking and when we got back to the truck I took out the fob and pressed the unlock button...
I just turned 60 and I would have bought the Chrome package, but it was a bit too much chrome for me - I REALLY, REALLY wanted the Chrome bumpers but couldn't take all of the rest of the chrome. But then again, I'm kind of weird - I like the basic (non steely - PVD?) wheels better than the...
I have this exact same one - it wasn't what I was expecting, but it has been on for over 4 years now and doesn't show any sign of being loose or coming off at all. It works pretty well. The only thing is that needles, etc get caught in the upper section - and water collects as it runs off the...
If you didn't purchase it from the dealer who did you purchase it from? There had to be some documents you signed when purchasing it.
Ford Protect is the one backed by Ford.
