FYI, for anyone reading this, once you get the loctite softened it comes out easily with a 10" socket wrench. So if it takes more force than you can put on with a 10" lever, you need more heat, not more force. (I used 700F for about a minute, with concentrator nozzle, be careful because it's...
Cool idea re: slot, the metal is so soft might even be able to hammer one in.How would using a socket work? Basicallyfind one just same size as head and bang it in to crown?
Good idea, I wasn't sure how to reach the other side in any case and I'll probably need to. Down the rabbit hole I go. So like with heat gun using concentrator nozzle.. what temp would you think?
re: impact wrench I won't be able to get it exactly parallel, do you think that's likely to fubar...
For our alu-cab install, I need to remove not just the tailgate but the hinges. Halfway through it became clear that these bolts do not want to leave home. I made a mess of it but I don't feel that bad since my son did too. 1) It's bonded red loctite. 2) the bolt is aluminum and super soft -...
BTW, how's that 9-5 holding up? Still mourning Saab, my Viggen was one of the favourite cars I've owned. They were so far ahead of their time -- building boosted I-4s decades before Ford and everyone else discovered them.
Ford has been using CVTs for years, and i would guess (too lazy too look) an off the shelf unit. So I wouldn’t be worried about reliability. Otoh there is a reason that Ford abandoned the CVT when it went from Freestyle to Taurus X. (A wagon I had btw, forerunner to Flex and really underrated...
I can't imagine that will happen at all. People that are looking for this kind of truck are not going to confuse a body-on-frame "real" truck for the Maverick. No hit on the Maverick which looks like a nice package I just don't think they will be cross-shopping it against Tacoma.
Figure I'm more of an oat milk and free-range organic chicken Ranger guy than a soy milk and tofu Maverick guy or a super-size coke and two big macs with fries F-150 guy. Gotta find a happy medium somehow.
The Ranger powertrain is what really sold me over the Colorado/Canyon, along with a bunch of other things, particularly interior comfort.
One thing I have to give recent Tacoma, they look totally badass esp. when modded. But the platform is showing it's age to put it kindly.
I do wonder about packaging. If they keep the blown I-4 and then add ~20kwh battery and electric motor on top of that, that's a lot of weight and bulk on a platform that already seems pretty optimized. Hope I'm wrong on that.
Honestly, we didn't even bother test driving a Tacoma. We focussed on Ranger and Colorado and even looked at a Jeep (which we immediately dismissed after driving one.) We've all been in one enough times to know how cramped they are.No way my kids were going to put up with multi day drives in the...
Totally agreed about PHEVs, in many ways the best of both worlds. We considered the Mitubhishi but ruled it out for off road capability and the RAV4 because it wasn't avaiable and also it's a Toyota. Buta PHEV Ranger would be perfect for us.
I spend most of my social media time on Twitter so this place is an oasis of civility from my POV . But yeah, I think we could all do without the pissing matches here. ?
EVs are actually perfect for this case, because they have built in flexibility for *when* they are charged at home. So in summer everyone runs AC full blast during day but there is plenty of unused capacity at night. So it can even help utilities manage load. Solar and wind and other...
