Hi fellow 5gers! Up for sale is a perfect condition K&N panel filter for factory air boxes. I ran this for only 2000 mi, so filter still looks like new. Selling for $40 shipped. Just PM me if interested.
Thanks 5gers!!
Hi fellow 5gers! I recently upgraded my factory +55 offset steel wheels to some 0 offset steel wagon wheels with 265/75/16 tires (32” tire). Love the stance and handling, but with no leveling kit (and I don’t plan on getting one) I was rubbing the factory crash bars before full steering lock was...
Hello fellow 5gers! Just wanted to share a mod I did to lower IATs due to air box heat soak in stop and go traffic / city driving. I observed for several months via my Procal 4 that once my factory air box became heat soaked (from either being parked when going into a store or in stop/go city...
Hi 5gers! About 2 mos ago I decided to setup a second air feed for the factory airbox. I have my reasons for doing so, but I have no dyno numbers (data) regarding this mod so no reason to extrapolate as I know I will be challenged on “Your reasons and research suck, etc”. Thus this thread is...
I just got to 3k so no oil analysis yet, but i concur with others that these motors run rich. I have factory DP still with the FP tune and when cold starting my truck in the garage I set my smoke detector off due to what I assume are the high levels of unburnt hydrocarbons being sent into the...
I agree with not swelling with a couple of pounds of pressure, but 22lbs at WOT is a different story. What are your thoughts on the aFE dyno graph in this thread showing only a gain from 2200 to 3200 rpm? What would cause that gain if no swelling was taking place with factory silicone IC piping...
Correct there are normally soft couplers at the turbo, IC, and TB connections to allow for install/removal and engine movement. The difference is those connections are minimal soft sided piping to swell vs the stock setup.
Past experience on DSM turbo cars. They too had soft sided IC piping and they swell up during boost build, meaning the boost fills the stretched pipe diameter and then fills the intake manifold. With hard pipe there is no stretch so boost pressure goes directly into the manifold sooner, shifting...
While the thread is about intercoolers, upgraded IC hard pipes are related so it’s all good to bring up too IMO.
I think the takeaways for me from the aFE hard intercooler piping dyno are two-fold:
1. The stock intercooler piping is not restrictive, as there are no gains seen up top when flow...
Good point, but the good news is the AFE hard pipe dyno was done on a stock truck too and we can see that hard charge pipes only add power down low due to boost pressure not swelling up the stock soft walled pipes. Since Mishimoto’s dyno was also done on a stock truck we can deduce that any...
If you look at the power curve in the Mishimoto video you are correct that at the same RPM range as where the Bladerunner pipes allow quicker spool and power is added (per the AFE dyno chart), more power is made like with the Mishimoto setup. However, AFE pipes do nothing for the top end, while...
Great point and I agree. I wonder if the reason why a vendor like Montune hasn’t put dyno numbers out is because at the end of the day, even under WOT, the larger intercooler difference is very small. You would think if it made big gains like seen on the Focus ST they would put that all over...
