Their kit comes with a great mag mount and antenna kit (only a short like 18-24in antenna though). I'm sure a longer antenna would be more effective but I love being able to store it in the seatback pocket, throw it on the roof when I hit a trail or want to use it, and then take it down when I'm...
No, it's a really powerful (60 watt) VHF radio unit, so more like HAM's cousin. Crystal clear for at least 8 miles (the distance I've tested it so far).
Again I'm a little behind on the days, but recently did the offroad radio install so I have a more powerful unit than the handhelds we've used in the past. Dash removed to run power wires thru the firewall, then antenna wires under the floor mats and out. Super clean/easy, works beautifully...
Replacement bump stops won't do much with the factory setup, that isn't the limiting factor (the overload springs and single main leaf are and the bumps only really stop you once the leafs allow the travel to happen correctly). Once you know what your constant/trip weight is that will help a lot...
Haha no problem, looking forward to the measurements. And that's really cool.
So, yours is exhibiting some of the same characteristics mine was once the shocks went on, you can see the outline of the circular overload spring's pad where it keeps hitting the single leaf almost immediately, so I...
Thank you so much Guinness! See this info is very interesting and it'll give me (and I think everyone as they spend a little more time under/around their trucks) a lot more insight into the variations/why things function the way they do. Cool to see you're an engineer, in what field?
Yours is...
Hey guys! I'm coming at this from a slightly different angle (I've already got my prototype leaf springs on the rear end and very little of the suspension on mine is stock anymore front or rear).
It's interesting, Ford seems to have designed a Left and Right asymmetrical set of springs because...
Unfortunately that thread is just about the cosmetics of a lean and says that their conclusion is it was there to level the truck, but mine was still 1 3/8" off and I'm focused on the mechanics of the suspension not the cosmetics. And there was also a lot of incorrect information about...
Hey everyone! I posted this in the general section but people don't seem interested in measuring and this may be the people more interested in the results anyway. So I'm just looking for some info from everybody on their trucks so I have some more information on variances, etc as I'm working on...
Hi Everyone! I'm looking to get some numbers from everybody on their trucks so I have some more information on variances, etc. Anyone who has a minute (stock or not/list what work done to the rear if any), I would really appreciate it!
Just looking for 1 measurement from each side while the...
Haha for sure I'll keep you updated. Bumper will go on for testing soon, leafs are being tested now. We've worked around a bunch of the issues with the Ranger's factory setup and we're really happy with the results. It's a whole new truck. Still working on our real fix for the strange shackle...
It's thankfully not a problem (but I would try to avoid it in the future anyway) because if you look under the hood, the air intake hose is actually way up at the top near the hood so if you keep it below that point and enter the water slowly so the water doesn't create a bow wave and come over...
That is in fact the winch we modeled it with (and likely the one I'll run), so if all goes as planned then yes. Most warn (and winches in general) have the same bolt mounting pattern it's just a space issue but these trucks have a fair bit of space there once you relocate the ACC.
Coming soon. Prototype should be done in a week and a half, then mounting and some testing. Winch capable, wire management tabs/light mounting points included, modular 3 piece design, retains parking sensors and tow hooks, relocated ACC, gussets for strength. And that's just the stage 1.
Not today (Saturday) but I took the truck out for some fun in Afton Canyon/Mojave. Mud and salt mush up to the axles, water crossings halfway up the doors (no water intrusion), 80+mph trails, and 1 oh sh*t moment hitting a probably 20-22inch whoop I didnt see at 40ish and launching the rear end...
Got the Ranger out for some fun time this weekend out at Afton Canyon/Mojave. It was a blast. The truck handled everything great, hit some relatively stupid speeds (80+ at points and yes offroad) and it rode like a cloud over just about everything (nowhere near stock), and even got the rear end...
Haha I assume that basically just hides the wires and makes it look a tiny bit cleaner with the 12v. May make install a tiny bit easier too by corralling wiring. But yeah I put the panel down there a year ago right when I got the truck and just tied the wiring up and haven't had any issues with...
