Yes the bump stop spreader pads should always be used. These spread the clamping forces and limit the amount the springs/axle can slide in case the center pin shears in an impact.
The main leaf can work-harden over time under the ubolt and snap.
I agree.:D Oh, by dipsticks did you mean.....
I wouldn't take Blackstones results as fully accurate. I would like to see an oil sample split up into 4 test samples and sent in from 4 different owners from different states to see if the results come back exactly the same. The levels, numbers and...
Here's some info of actual oil level increases. The initial fill was 5.9 liters.
With 325 ml added.
With 650ml added.
Each 5.5% increase raises the oil level 5.5mm approximately. The hash marks to the top hole would be about 11% increase.
To get accurate levels on the dipstick you...
Preload does stiffen the rangers front end up due to the change in control arm angles from the applied lift. This is where the law of the lever comes into play and at an approximate 2:1 ratio it is quite noticeable.
This isn't a dirt bike where one is trying to adjust for rider weight and...
" in general spring theory" I would suggest you look at variable rate coils like Metalcloak or Moog.
One won't have less travel because the springs do not limit travel in any engineered strut as this would induce coil bind and kick out or catastrophic failure.
This is not true. I have the BDS / Zone lift which vastly improves the Rangers overly soft ride qualities.
It is a 3/4 inch spring compressing collar and a 1/4 inch top hat spacer. This minimizes to much down travel (1/2 inch extra) and keeps the top of the compression travel closer to the...
With your experiment of staying out of boost you definitely have a plumbing leak. If your oil is rising that fast and your PCV is working well, the rising oil level is only showing a little of the leakage as most of it will be burning off, as is shown by your low mpg. Having a way to monitor...
OME shocks and struts like to rust and have valve and seal failures. I would go with Bilstein 6112 for the front, 5100 for the rear. OME leafs from 4wheelparts.ca. Rough country arms from lowriders.ca if needed. This setup will last the longest in Calgary winters.
83 pages long and not 1 reported problem from fuel in the oil. Pretty well built motor if you ask me.
Now the PCV system might be another issue. With a proper amount of fresh air turnover in the crankcase, the fuel vapor should be adequately removed. Could a restriction or improper valve...
You will be fine with those Fox shocks. Compression length is what you have to be concerned with when carrying those kind of weights. You can always buy shock extender brackets for the lower mounts. Longer shocks require lower bumpstops to prevent compression damage.
What OME springs are you...
It would be my guess that Ford engineers had to come up with a compromise . To meet fuel mpgs, modern vehicles have massively overdriven gearing (10spd has has 3 overdrive ratios). The further away you get from 1:1, increasing lugging harmonics at more damaging frequencies occur. This...
You will want to use all the factory hardware. Just pull the bumpstop off. It will clip into the white plastic hat on assembly and the black dust shield goes over top and into the groove.
The white bumpstop strut cap probably wont fit, but the ome strut looks like it has one built in already...
