  1. What did you do to your Ranger today?

I didn't do this today, but I recently put some new shoes on the Ranger -- Vredestein Pinza ATs. They were about $50 cheaper than the Falkens and highly rated on Tire Rack. So far I'm pretty happy with them, but time will tell.
  2. What Are You Listening To?

About a dozen years ago I watched an unremittingly bleak British cop drama called ... wait for it ... "Happy Valley." The opening theme song was by a young singer named Jake Bugg. He doesn't seem to have made much of a splash in North America, but I think he's pretty good. The first track is the...
  3. Ford ranger reverse camera keeps blowing fuse

The first place I'd look is at the point where the wiring harness enters the tailgate. Flexing over time from opening/closing can break wiring. I've had to repair the harnesses on several trunk lids and tailgates.
  4. Fuel Brand Preference

BP is pretty dominant around here. A nearby station sells 89 midgrade for the price of 87 regular every Sunday, when I'm a steady customer. Once in a while I'll get a tank of 93 premium when I'm at Costco. A local quirk is that most 93 octane in this area is an ethanol blend while 91 premium is...
  5. Diode Dynamic SS3 fog light questions. Sport or Pro?

I have the Pro series in white. They don't just light up the shoulders of the road but also about 20-30 feet beyond. I suspect the whites are a little harder on oncoming drivers, but I seldom get flashed.
  6. Have my first issue with my 21 Ranger

I had an '85 Ford Escort years ago that had a rear (hatchback) glass that kept shattering. I must have replaced it three times. Usually I'd park the car, come back hours later and the glass had collapsed into a million pieces.
  7. Where’s your dog?

Er, I mean Kota. Love the name Cheech, though.
  8. Where’s your dog?

Looks like Cheech is going to give that train what-for. He looks like a feisty guy.
  9. Where’s your dog?

I lost my English shepherd Alfie (pictured elsewhere in this thread) at the end of January. I can't go too long without a collie, though, so we adopted this guy. His name is Spoon.
  10. Where’s your dog?

Brittanies are a great, underappreciated breed.
  11. Dealing with frame rust

I had an NH Oil shop in my area treat my truck with their wax and oil service a couple years ago. The undercarriage got the wax and body cavities got the oil. They touch the truck up every year for $20, a good deal IMO. So far the truck is rust-free, but we're early in the game.
  12. Anyone pressure bleed/change their brake fluid?

I just gravity bled the brakes while I did some tinkering elsewhere. It's slow but it works. Just make sure the reservoir is topped up and let it drain.
  13. Darwin Award Thread

One memorable event was in the local news quite a while ago. A maintenance guy for a large company in my area was assigned to take a work van to a filling station where the company had an account. The guy was in the habit of taking along a can for his personal use that he would fill with gas on...
  14. Yellow fog lights vs. white fog lights, which one do you prefer and why?

I was driving last night in the country when my white Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro lights picked up some young raccoons doing whatever raccoons do just before they rush into the path of moving vehicles. I spotted them with plenty of time to react because the fogs cast a broad puddle of light onto the...
  15. Where’s your dog?

Thank you sir. When you get into the senior class you learn that life is a series of goodbyes. Sad, but it beats the alternative. It's so kind of you to adopt an older dog. And yeah, race red Supercab, the thinking man's Ranger.
  16. Regular Maintenance Matters

Yeah, and heat can do its damage to fluid quality as well. In my one experience taking an automatic transmission (a zF 5hp30) to 300k miles, it seemed that the fluid stayed cleaner as it reached high-mile territory. It had an orange tint when it came out, but it was pretty clear. I used Lubegard...
  17. Regular Maintenance Matters

It shouldn't be surprising that the transmission will create the greatest amount of particulate matter as it breaks in early in its lifetime. That's why I think an early change is important. Moreover, the particles in suspension may be too small to get caught in the filter but they still can be...
  18. Where’s your dog?

I've never farmed actively, but my grandparents farmed some, piecing together a living income deep in the Upper Peninsula. Dad often talked about their collies walking the cows in to be milked. When sis and I were growing up, herding dogs were our only canine pets. Alfie did pretty well in...
