dull roar

does anyone else experience a semi roar with a perceived lack of power when you first take off in the morning. seems to correct itself after about a 1/4 mile. if so does it have to do with the turbo? this is my first turbo. and does letting it warm up longer matter ?

Mine does the same every morning

The "semi roar" is the fan clutch. Once it warms up it quiets down. Phil can explain it better but it is normal. I don't feel a perceived lack of power but then again, I don't get on it until the engine has warmed up a bit - I always start out slow.

Yup, it's normal. I've seen the behavior in a lot of late model trucks and kind of expected it. I usually warm my truck up a few minutes and I'm good to go. Yay Fordpass.

Hi Ken,

This condition is commonly referred as Morning Sickness. The silicone fluid drains to the bottom of the fan clutch, locking it up and causes the roar. Starting the vehicle and then driving away will produce the fan noise until the fluid is evenly distributed to the clutch and the fan goes into idle mode... There is no damage to the vehicle, but can be a customer annoyance. I have been accused by a neighbor for storming out of my driveway at high speed as he hears the roar of the fan and thought it was the motor at high revs. So I parked his sorry ass in the passenger seat and we drove sedately down the street with the fan roaring until we hit the end of the block where the noise faded to nothing while sitting at a stop.
Ahole had a sheepish grin on his face...I bit him farewell and told him to next time file a formal complaint with the HOA...I would delight to embarrass him publicly. We have not spoken since as he sees me he turns to hide in his garage. Problem is the fan is very loud. This can be corrected with a redesign of the fan clutch, but it would appear that Ford decided this was a risk they would take on customer complaints. I personally think this should be fixed, but I have no horsepower to force a change like I did when inside the company. I know who the decision maker on these matters is and he is the most technically incompetent, unethical boss for which I ever worked. If it is really troublesome to you, file a complaint with Ford customer. Enough voices crying fowl may force action...likely won't fix your vehicle, but forces the company to spend $ to fix the problem.

My Jeep does the exact same thing as my Ranger and stops at the exact same spot too. My Power Wagon did the same thing. Seems standard across the board for some manufacturers.

My 2015 Dodge Ram did the same exact thing. I just figured this is what modern vehicles do nowadays.

My wife refers to the Ranger as her Little Big Rig because of the fan noise. Makes you wonder, how long until someone makes an electric fan for it? I know I'd be tempted to buy it.
