We buy locally raised beef from a coworker when I was teaching. No hormones, actually grass fed and finished on alfalfa and asparagus. Best tasting stuff! My wife has never been a steak lover, ate it but it was just okay to her. The first night we tried the new beef three years ago we had ribeyes. She is now hooked!😂 Pure clean beef is healthy. Only meat that might be healthier is wild venison. More protein and less cholesterol per ounce. Since my harvesting elk and deer is nowhere a given 😂 the beef in the freezer is a sure thing!!😁
Due to my poorly timed cataract, I was unable to harvest a deer this year for the first time in 26 years. Been keeping my eye out for beef deals. There is a really good albeit pricey butcher in Charlottesville that has occasional specials. And my favorite farm market always has beef. But it's hard to accept the price. Been eating a lot of poultry and pork.

So when I got home today, with the sun barely melting the top of all the ice, I could not get traction to get up my sidewalk. I felt like a live Funniest Home Video. I would take a couple steps and slide back down. I was grabbing on any little chuck of ice protruding up. My wife, who had been trying to clear her car had better gripping boots on, walked right up and pushed against my back so I could get to the cleared door steps. Fuck this shit!

If you can, source someone who raises locally and sells direct to consumer. Usually have to commit to a half or split it with someone and each take a quarter. That's what we do with with our daughter and SIL. We pay my friend for the hanging carcass then pay the processor for the cut and wrap. It was roughly $2400 for the half when all said and done. We could customize most of the cuts to fit how we use it. We won't go any other way at this point.

The Best !
Ain't nothing wrong with Spam, it's just spiced ham made from the shoulder that used to go to scrap, IIRC.

We would need a bigger freezer for that. A good size deer all processed and boneless takes up about 2 liquor bottle boxes. If I get two deer, it's pushing our freezer with all the other crap the wife puts in it.

Nice setup and property there Ed. I bet the first thing you said was "Why'd I wait so long to get this"? lol I'm good at procrastinating things and when I finally do it I wished I hadn't waited so long. I'm getting better at not doing it and at this stage of my life, there isn't all that much time left to keep procrastinating things.

This is so true. I'm even rethinking my blood pressure medication. It's low dose as I am on the borderline but I need to do some investigating. I will not take statins. The wife either. Too low cholesterol causes issues with brain cells and dementia like you mentioned. I just need to get myself in better shape as I'm still recovering from GBS a year ago. Oh, the joys of getting old!😂
Try insuring your electrolytes are optimal. This has worked wonders for me. Lowered BP , and got rid of arrhythmia (Tachy, A-Fib, etc). Key for me were raising Potassium (K 3700-4500mg /day and Magnesium ( 200mg / day), and lowering sodium (Na max of 1000mg / day).

No BP meds needed. Things like HCTZ lower K levels (bad).

I used To be able to handle cold but couldn't do it anymore at my age. Had to do something and this will give us a couple more years here. We get some big snow off the lake with constant cold winds and this makes plowing fun again. Plus my wife can't help with the snow anymore. Got the RTV for plowing small storms on warm sunny days also.
