Mismanagement of funds is the hallmark of both state and frderal U.S. Government agencies.

In 2022 Cali paid over $83 Billion more than it received back from the feds. Its been that way for years. California receives less in federal funds than 40 of the 50 states.
Hey, I live in Massachusetts. I get it. It doesn't matter how much federal assistance your state gets, it's how the budget is managed. Both states are terrible fiscal managers that focus completely on the wrong priorities. That's why they are in debt.

I read Chinese real-estate buyers are heading to LA now to buy anything that goes up for sale cheap. Apparently 70% of homes were under insured and people will have to move to more affordable areas to rebuild putting a great deal of real-estate on the market. Also read there aren't enough decent contractors in the area to rebuild those that remain and scam contractors are going to be a very big problem.

Did you happen to see Mel Gibson speculating that the fires were planned with the knowledge that many can't afford to rebuild? On a much lesser scale something similar happened in the CO with the Marshall fire, many were under insured and looked to the state government to make up the delta and tried to enact legislation that insurers be required to pay full present value of homes, this would universally raise cost for all homeowners and the bill went nowhere. I insure my home at the lowest possible value possible, incurring risk in the interest of lower rates, do much the same with auto coverage.

You're right there aren't enough good contractors but sadly it's not just there it's all over now. That was another huge reason we decided to leave AZ as I wanted to do a lot of remodeling on the house and the work there is sub par at best. I know I'm jaded having worked with some great contractors and was lucky to have been taught the correct way growing up. Sadly most have or are about to retire and there's really not a lot of good qualified tradesmen coming up to fill in the gaps. I saw this 20 years ago and told my guys there's going to huge problem once we all retire and that day is now.

When I started in construction you could look outside and every trade had young guys working on the job site. Right before I left MA all were gone except a few journeyman plumbers/electricians. Construction is just to hard for this new generation who doesn't want to work and expects to start at the top. I will say I'm pretty impressed by most of the guys working on our new house now. That's not to say there weren't a few things they forgot to do ( there were and getting taken care of now putting it 2 weeks behind) but overall it's 100% better than AZ. I'm probably a builders worst customer being knowledgeable in the trades and super OCD. lol

? It is ironic that the whole idea of the giant battery storage facility is to reduce the use of fossil fuel power plants. However, the contamination from burning this massive amount of lithium batteries might be worse than whatever emissions might come from a natural gas power plant. I wonder how many ICE vehicles would have to drive down the road and for how long to make up for the environmental catastrophe here??‍♂
that's right and once again a good example of well thought out but badly done as it usually turns out these days because ... see my comment above...
in this respect, it's relatively similar to a fire in a foam-insulated garden shed... ?✌? no front!

HaHa. Something like this comes from something like this! Whoever says predatory capitalism has to live with eviscerated livestock... too bad if you're the livestock, right?
Greetings to Victoria Newland go out!

edit:
this fits in with a new piece of legislation that seems to have come through in time: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/15/polluter-pay-bill-climate-disasters

you don't really take mel gibson's conspiracy nonsense seriously, do you?
this is a completely normal process in cocaine capitalism whose home country the usa has been since the fall of the british empire...
it's your own fault if you think democratic elections are a show event where you have to vote for the best actor... californians have already elected an austrian as governor...
we in germany had bad experiences with austrians in leadership positions earlier in history. but most of them didn't learn from that either and now want to vote for a gay nazi girl who lives in switzerland...
i guess mankind is just too stupid to work together in the long term to create prosperity for all.

There's about 100million m3 of CO2 released and I believe California should pay for the CO2 credits.

Let me provide a bank account number.

he was completely absorbed in his role in Conspiracy Theory in 1997. i guess there's a lot left behind. you hear that more and more often. when dementia sets in, the earlier memories stay longer...

yes, indeed.
just 5% of the war budget for provisioning would make a huge difference... but the cokeheads would rather generate even more so-called growth for the monopoly money. basically the same story as in ukraine and the middle east... unfortunately it's still like Frank Zappa once said;
"politics is the entertainment department of the arms industry."
"and the financial industry" should be added...
I was talking of state and local government inadequacies.

Let's keep this about the fires and NOT bring up politics, local or federal. These poor people have been through enough and all the finger pointing in the world isn't going to solve a darn thing!

well. if the money were spent on prevention and not just on the removal of damage, a lot would be gained.
in general, armed conflicts are no different from fires, floods or earthquakes.
