I snagged a .357 mag revolver for $67 plus shipping!

The catch? This was the revolver:

My first .357 was the same pistol!

Funny story (to me anyway).

My friend and I were out shooting and his sister's boyfriend drove up.

He was a missionary's son and had never fired a gun.

Of course he wanted to shoot.

I gave him my 4" barrel Ruger loaded with 2 .38 special rounds and the 3rd was a CCI Lawman .357 (pretty hot load).

So he goes pow, pow, BOOM!

The look on his face was priceless

My ears were ringing for a week after I used a .357 hot load in mine! I swear that I saw a flame exit the barrel! And I wasn't prepared for the kick! It is a heavy well built revolver, and I figured the mass would lesson the kick.. I WAS WRONG!

I still have a few of those loads, but I really don't want to fire them without serious ear protection. The thing is a cannon!

Exactly what needs to be put on the service managers desk when you go in to talk about warranty issues, usually will eliminate the term we could not duplicate your complaint.

My current .357 is a GP100 in stainless with a fully shrouded 4" barrel.

It handles the hot loads FAR better than the Security Six did.

I don't fire it too much anymore, but I keep it due to emotional reasons.

I had a real tough life threatening event happen to me in Shreveport. A big black cop from The police dept responded with about 3 other cars. I told him what happened. His first words to me was "Welcome to Shreveport. You should have shot him!" I replied that I'd go to jail for it! His response has stuck with me all these years later. "We have an old saying around here,,, Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

He took me to the Pawn Shop where I purchased my first gun. That .357 Security Six.

I was a devout Christian thinking God will take care of me... I keep my nose clean and helped others, steered clear of situations, etc.

Naive.

I lost my faith that day.

Questioned everything I once believed in.

Took me 3 years to regain balance. And 40 more to find my way back to Christ.

I am whole again.

I have a question for those knowledgeable about suppressors. I am thinking about getting the Silencerco Omega 36. I want something that is modular I think. The main rifle I’m looking to suppress is 300blk but would also like use it on my daughters 350 legend and also my M1A 308. I won’t be doing any crazy mag dumps, most of the use will be hunting. Might throw it on a 5.56 AR occasionally when plinking. Is this a good option for what I’m looking to accomplish and are there other options I should be considering?

I'm no expert by any means, I have 5 different suppressors ( 2-22's/2-9mm/1-5.56) and I personalty like having one dedicated to each firearm I'm using it on. It's me (and my OCD thing again) but I always feel it's best to run them this way even though many can run different calibers. I doubt it's a huge deal if you're going to use it on one and occasionally change it out to another. I would call the Silencer Shop (512) 931-4556 and ask them which would be the best can. They're super helpful there and can steer you in the right direction.

I will eventually get to dedicated at least caliber/platform suppressors. This will be my “gateway” suppressor lol. Realistically I will need 5-6 to cover everything I need. I’ve ran them years ago and always wanted one but never wanted to wait. With the current wait times being anything from 1 day to 6 months it seems better than previously of 6 months best case scenario. That was good advice to call Silencer Shop. I should have thought of that first. When in doubt ask the experts lol. I live close to Palmetto State Armory so I might go by there tomorrow and see what’s in stock. I wish I had cheaper hobbies lol.

I wanted one for a while, but don't like feeding Uncle Sam for something that should realistically be better for everyone.

They work best with subsonic ammunition. Just the click of the action. Have not played with one on hotter large weapons. Are they really used on an AR or AK?

I have read that Israeli intelligence uses .22 subsonic with silencer. Double tap to the head. But what do I know?

I know I like saving my hearing.

With my .22's even using non sub sonic ammo are super quiet, like James Bond quiet. lol You'll hear the initial "pop' of the action then all the other are a light pffttt. You can easily get away without wearing and ear protection but I always do.

The 9mm ones are a bit louder but still way better than having one without. I like them because Annie is more comfortable shooting those now. She use to anticipate every shots loud bang and it's helped her be more comfortable with it now. My second 9mm can stays on my CZ Scorpion permanently. It's one of my home defense weapons and I don't want to blow my ears out if I ever had to use it. But my go to HD is my Mossberg Shockwave shotgun so that'll almost guarantee I'll be deaf. lol

The .556 does help and I bought it just to have one for every caliber I own. Yes paying for the $200 tax stamp on each one is BS as they should be free. Coming from MA where everything is regulated I was like a kid in a candy store when I arrived in AZ. I bought everything I always wanted and could never have there and luckily they're all legal here too. But that was on my list (non commie state) when looking for places to relocate to.

On a couple of mine I had to wait 9-12 months! My last .22 only took 3 months which was more realistic and even my FFL said that there's really no good reason for these long wait times. He said some got theirs back in 3-4 months where other were 9+. Oh Lord if I lived close to PSA I'd be broke too and have to go back to working full time. ?
