I'm wanting to tow a small 16ft camper trailer with my 2023 XLT, an Xplorer 165X. It did not come with the factory tow package. I have since installed a Class 3 curt hitch, but I'm still 4 pin only. To make things nice and OEM I ordered the factory 4/7 pin wiring harness (KB3Z-15K868-D) and receptacle (FU5Z-14489-A). After installing those two, should the factory brake controller (VKB3Z-2C006-A) install just like as if the truck came with the tow package from the factory?

From my research, the "factory" TBC was always installed at the dealer not the factory on our Rangers. I plan on adding these items to mine in the event I decide that I need a boat more than money one day or want to camp in a trailer instead of a tent. From what I know, the only real advantage for the factory TBC is that it will interact with some of the safety systems, auto brake I think, whereas the others will not but have a much easier install but I could be mistaken.

I like those safety features about the factory TBC, and if it'll work after I retrofit my non-tow package XLT with the OEM tow package tail light harness as the prerequisite I'm all for it.

I get that, that is why I want the oem one as well even though they are pricey. I don't have 4wd so there is a nice big spot of plastic next to the shifter before the cancel stop start button where it would go on my truck. It would also be a good time to wire up a dash cam that has a rearward facing camera which is what I plan to do once I decide on a dash cam.

Even better, I have two Border Collies. They are the traditional black and white. Amazing dogs.
That they are. She is the fourth one in my family. My parents have two that are traditional colored that are brother and sister from the same litter. Their intelligence can be concerning at times. Mine will open bedroom doors (taught to her by my parents female Border Collie) and knows the spelling to her favorite things like ball or park. When I bring mine over to their house, the three of them are like a bunch of toddlers.

The first one I had was a tyrant as a pup. He chewed up door trim and the carpet in the house and my wife hated him. When he was 10 he had cancer and by that time she was attached to him as much as myself. Now we have these two current ones and when you come in our house their toys are everywhere the frisbees especially. I have never seen a dog like them so crazy to chase a frisbee.
