So had vehicle into service today to address a ford pass remote start setting on dash. They fixed that but i am realizing that when i took it in, "fuel to empty" was 274 mi (i know this because i took a screenshot of my ford pass app before hand) - after service was completed, and i didn't notice until i got home, that now it says 363 miles to emtpy both on ford pass app and on dash. I am pretty sure i did not fuel up on the way back. Plus i have never seen it display more than "309 miles to empty" after a fill up. i will call them tomorrow but in mean time if anyone has an idea about this id appreciate thanks ahead of time.

Good point. I always set "fuel to empty" after a fill up but have never monitored afterwards. Will start checking the readings after the fact now to see if any fluctuations.

Did the fuel level gauge show more fuel?
Could it be that the truck was idling for a while and artificially inflated MPG to throw off the reading. Kind of like when coasting down a hill and it shows 99 MPG.

They probably flashed some module to correct the setting about remote start. The truck likely lost the history that it used to calculate distance to empty and defaulted to whatever default is. Our trucks uses the milage of the last tank or two of gas to calculate the distance to empty. Your distance to empty will adjust after you drive a tank or two.

363 is close to the normal average, for DTE from fresh fill and (FULL)

Ok well now Im pretty sure that the fuel gage was off to begin with and whatever they did yesterday must have reset it correctly.

no didn’t idle long but I recently bought this with low miles (2019) and seller said it sat hidden for a year or two from repo company. So it could be due to ?? Anyway I think it is actually reset correctly now. Thanks!

I have run mine way past zero to empty, there is a builtin fudge factor of probably 50 miles
it really pisses me off to see a 1/4 tank and 35 to empty!

sounds like others more or less describe the issue but i'll add i notice if for example i am in town my mileage is LOW, then i head on the freeway out of town and the mileage goes way up the distance to empty also increases.

Sorry I keep mine set at MPG's. And the only time I see anything is when the warning light comes on. And that is rare because I usually get gas around half a tank or slightly less. Oh I'm getting 26 MPG.
