i need some recommendations:
I ordered a 30-30 lever action. dont want a scope in the way and will likely never shoot it past 100 yards. my use will be for fun shooting targets mainly. on occasion the rifle will serve as a ranch / truck rifle for hogs or predators. it will not be babied. i want an optic of some sort, dot, reflex or other. something to help my eyes out to get on target quick but not be a bulky pain in the butt. dont really want magnification unless its really low like a 2 power. my budget will allow around 200 bucks. open to ideas :)

Vortex is decent quality and reasonably priced.

I like my Vortex UH1, super super clear, and nice reticle. Maybe you could score a used one off tacswap or something. I got mine for $290 used off AAoptics. Used doesn't matter because Vortex has a lifetime warranty. Although if you get a gen 1 it is a battery drainer even when off. I have to take the battery out and keep it in the grip compartment otherwise it goes dead.

Another option is the Primary Arms SLX microprism, $189 from Simmons sporting goods. It's pretty nice too and more compact. But crap all three mounting screws underneath stripped out. I used a torque wrench set to 30 in-lbs as per the manual and it rounded off the screws before it clicked. That is some real BS, I guess I'm stuck with it literally. It better never loosen.

Magnified optics for most lever guns are going to be somewhat limited in offerings. If you have a pic rail on the top of your 30-30, something small like the Vortex SparcSolar might be a good option that isn't as bulky as the UH-1 is.

well no lever action for me now. found out late last night that the seller was a scam. seemed legit until it came time for payment. they only wanted zelle or cash app, and pictures of the transaction sent to a private email lol. ?️‍♂ im disappointed i was looking forward to it. come to find out a lot of scam gun sights on line. a couple seem legit until payment time. avoid mossbergarmoury.com
thank you guys for the optic suggestions. looks like i dont need one after all.

I ran into the same issue when trying to find a Rottweiler puppy! I have a healthy amount of distrust for people, and it sounds like you do as well. I’m glad you didn’t get scammed.

i was close. if they would have had a normal checkout process that took credit cards i would have been screwed. the only taking zelle thing slowed me down to look carefully. but up until then they did well, even asked for fll info for shipping etc.

I'm sure you do, but check Palmetto State and Primary Arms. They have sales pretty frequently.

It's been fun here at my job! The situation in the Middle East is causing ammo to absolutely FLY OFF THE SHELF! I am soooooooooo glad we had loaded up on 5.56 SS109 and .223 REM for a now passed Winchester/Browning rebate promotion. 5.56/.223 and 9mm are moving! What a great time to be an online ammo dealer!

I have also fallen in love with "Saturday Night Special" firearms and have added a couple to my collection since I bought that Hi-Point C9.

I scored this rusty Galesi .22 Short for $24 plus shipping. The mag on the left was exactly the same price as the gun after shipping on both. ? I'm going to de-plate the pistol, polish it, and blue it - and of course, get it into working order.

I also picked up this Raven MP-25 that I've started to fix up. It was $11 plus shipping - but it was missing almost everything. I bought an almost new, cut-up parts gun for $66 shipped with everything I need in nice shape to rebuild this. So far, I've finished pulling the small parts off of it, ultrasonic cleaned it, and drilled and re-tapped the grip screw holes for 8-32 (one of the 6-32 grip screw holes was stripped out). I will deep-clean the receiver to remove grease/oils, and refinish it in Alumahyde, and reassemble it soon!

Old crappy with clean parts!

Stripped out 6-32 screw hole for the grip panel.

Drilled out and tapped for 8-32.

Yay! The 8-32 fits...

...but is too large and sits proud of the grip.

Right - New 8-32 screw. Left - Old 6-32 screw. Middle - New 8-32 screw turned down to the 6-32 head size and shortened!

PERFECT!

And tomorrow, I have a little Jennings in .22 LR arriving at my office that I scored for $41 plus shipping! ?

Years back i took the nra safety basic and then pistol etc. and the instructor told everyone never carry anything made by jennings, phoneix, bryco and some other brand as they were Saturday night specials and made you look guilty lol. but they are so pocket friendly!
