Big Bear Lake Ranger Offroading and Dispersed Camping

I took the boy up to the San Bernardino National Forest for offroading and dispersed camping. We found this cherry spot overlooking the lake.

I go to Big Bear often. There are some fun trails and a ton of camping. You can find some big events up there for Overlanders too. There's a group of Rangers in SoCal that go out often if you wanted to roll with them. Maybe I'll see you out there!

Big Bear Lake is a beautiful area. I went there while I was stationed at Ft. Irwin. I went during the 4th of July weekend and it was around 110 degrees at the bottom and around 75 degrees up at the lake. I nearly froze when I first got out of my vehicle once at the lake.

Nope! That crowd is way to Big. I roll with my local SGV Overland Bound group.

As for events I would check out Festivus, OLAF, WOR (Weekend Offroad/Socal Overland) and Pure 4X4. Lots of events will use Holcomb Valley Ranch as their staging area.

do you think a 2wd with locker, 2inch lift in the front and 1 inch in the rear and stock Hancooks in LT size could do some of the stuff in big bear? been looking for a local socal group to a bit more offroading

Hi Mark,

There was a multi page "hand out" on Ford letterhead...If any of the handouts exist I am not aware who would have them. I do not have much thanks to a move were much of my Ford memorabilia was lost...
