Mercedes is already doing that with their EVs.

For Only $1200 a Year You Can Add Performance.

I'm old.

I can remember way back when you could buy Office and just install it on your computer and own it forever.

Now I try to convince people to try Libre but I get the blank stare and "Where's Word?"
Ha Ha, how long before this is hacked? And good luck to them.

Petrol (gasoline) and diesel are outrageously expensive here considering the size of the country. ie about AUD $1.80 per liter or ~ $5.0 US per US gallon. The less money I put in oil producers pockets the happier I am.
Gas taxes in Canada are almost 40% of the cost.
I know the gas companies make a lot of money, when you compare to crude oil prices, but the governments are the crime specialists here.

Maybe Ford is following Apple in selling the charge cord separately to 'save packaging waste'.
But the real travesty is putting the Mustang label on a 4 door car.

No the real travesty is putting a Mustang badge on something that ugly.

Yes same story here but can't pay for a road network in such a big country with a comparatively small population otherwise.

I've been using the apache suite (aka Open Office) of programs for a very long time now.

Yep and Libre office is just a fork of Open office, which itself is an open sourced version of Star Office which was originally written to be an office suite for OS2 for IBM back in the day.

Our small, 7 employee company found that out with Quick Books. Used to be $400, pay once. Now it's 'subscription based' for $1200 per year.

Yeah, the whole subscription based software scam has gotten out of control. I quit updating Quickbooks and Quicken when they switched. Bought "Office" and don't use 365 either.

Well took my wife's new zippy little e-box for a run this morning, dropped her at work and came home about a 130km round trip from here. Although I prefer my Ranger I must admit it, a rather pleasant drive.
Used up 50% battery , she can normally do it on 40% but it was cold this morning so triple whammy of using the heater, heated seats, and cold battery.
Also some boy racer in a pretend souped up Audi V6 coupe (sounded like straight through pipes) tried to cut off what he obviously mistook as some cheap little generic SUV on the freeway on-ramp. Well he will think twice before trying that again, this car is the best sleeper ever. :)
And it was only on "normal" power curve not "Sports". (I don't know where the change button is - this thing has more settings that a 747). And luckily my wife does not read these forums.
So I've plugged it in and it's a nice sunny winter day and we have 5Kw of solar here, so my recharge will be mostly zip. I think this car fits her niche use perfectly.

Adobe is another one who has gone down this annoying path with Photoshop and Lightroom. Luckily open source equivalents Gimp and Darktable are quite good, and getting better with each new release. Hugin is another excellent opensource program for photo stiching. I even used it on a semi pro job I did.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Libre Office is pretty good these days.
For the little I use Office doc's any more (retired) I just use Open Office as it's free, and compatible with the MS version extensions.

Yes open source has come a long way in the last few years. I use Linux as my daily driver OS, using it right now, free, reliable, secure, and doesn't collect data on you. I only keep a copy of Win 10 on my computer for work stuff, or the odd game. Probably don't even need it for that soon , gaming on Linux is getting better every day.
