Well it appears the previous owner of my truck has no plans to tow anything and really didn't want his trailer hitch step to be stolen! Unless I'm mistaken he expoxied the step into the trailer hitch and put epoxy in the lock. It's no wonder why the locksmith couldn't pick it. What a pain this is going to be.

that's a new 1 for me. I bet it was to keep it from rattling. try acetone. It should soften it up

the red neck in me would cut the pin and pound it out. then wrap a chain around the step and good thick tree, give it some gas and see what happens

That's a pain for sure. Previous owner probably knew he was never going to tow and wanted the step to not wobble as he is shifting weight on it. I guess you have an eternal hitch step ?

I'd start with a heat gun, or a portable heater and let the metal get really warn, but not hot enough to start melting plastic. Add that with a big dose of alcohol or solvent (see link above), and then maybe do the 'tie er to a tree' and slowly put pressure on it in 4w low. Don't apply alcohol to the driver though, I've heard bad things about that.

Well it wasn't as big of a pain as I thought it would be. About 5 seconds with the oscillating tool. Which was a bit eye opening. The pin was able to tap out way enough. The step required some pounding but I was able to wiggle it out.

Good idea, no rust in that area . I have cut them off with my 4 1/2 grinder. Buy high quality thin cutting discs and they cut quick. May need 2 cuts to get the radius off. If epoxy, as already stated acetone should soften it. I would take it back to the dealer that sold it to you and have them deal with it though.

I apologize if I put this is the wrong forum originally. I thought this forum was for more manufacturing problems than ones caused by the owner.
