Amateur. I've done that the day before. Threw out a Christmas decoration with a specialty plug because the wires had split and were short circuiting too close to the plug to be able to change it (yes, I did try to fix it before admitting that it was beyond my prowess with electrical circuitry, and that's not something I really want to try for a redneck repair). Stupidly threw out the adapter piece to the specialty plug that lets you plug it into a regular outlet too. Very next day, that same adapter gets fried on another decoration. D'OH!!!
