Snow day today, we've had a shitload of snow in Northern California here the last couple of weeks, looks like we get a break for at least 10 days starting after this morning so it was time to head up and take a look.

Betcha that seat is cold,

The Caney river in SE Kansas. Looks a lot better with green IMHO. This old, stone railroad bridge built in the late 1800’s is nearby. Lots of cool spots in this area. If you decide to do the TransAmerica Trail, you might consider a detour into Kansas instead of the section going through the NE part of Oklahoma.

I can remember when I was a small boy my dad taking me to Reno to visit his parents and the wall of snow in the parking lot for the rest area at Donner summit had to be 20 feet high.

I'm hoping we get another couple of weeks of this after the high pressure passes by that is moving in today.

Beyond amazing. Hell, I can't even draw a stick man. Work of art doesn't begin to describe this.

There is a winding wooden staircase in a Chapel in Santa Fe, NM. I've seen it.

The design was innovative for the time and some of the design considerations still perplex experts today.

When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Carpenters were called in to address the problem, but they all concluded access to the loft would have to be via ladder as a staircase would interfere with the interior space of the small Chapel.

Legend says that to find a solution to the seating problem, nine days of prayer commenced and on that ninth day a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later, the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks.

Inspiring!
