Who in the world within the Ford hierarchy dreams up these names?

First is the Maverick, which in my mind conjures up the word "cheap" because everything on that compact from the '70's screamed that word.

Now it's the "Rattler", do they realize the negative connotation this moniker brings to mind?

If any vehicle from Ford which truly deserved the name "Rattler" it's the 1st. gen Granada's and Monarch's...

What's next Ford...the "Squeaker"???

I get it, all the ones that come of the line with rattles or defects get a rattler tag slapped on them and ship ‘‘em to the dealers!
God knows how many Mercury Monarchs I've worked on just to exorcise rattles and squeaks back in '76-'78.
Ford's warranty repair orders were know as "1863's" back then (probably still are), each RO could list a max of 3 warranty concerns each.
It was very common to get 3-4 1863 RO's for just 1 Monarch, all addressing rattles and squeaks.

My folks used to have a 4-door Granada and that thing was a freaking tank.
The 2-door ones our local dealer fixed up with a wheel package and some decals to become a "Henry County Coupe". At the time (1976-ish) it was kind of bad-ass.
Or so I thought at the tender age of 15.
