Brake Pad Replacements

It’s getting around the time for me to replace the break pads on my 2019 Ranger, anyone have any recommendations of good brands (trying to avoid ordering from Ford for obvious pricing reasons) I’ve read some mixed reviews on Powerstop brand ceramic pads, also good things about Brakeperformance brand. Hoping I can hear some of your experiences to make a solid decision, thanks all!

Before I answer that question for you I must ask how you know you need to replace the brakes soon? The reason I ask this is at 30,000 miles my rear brakes were still at 9mm and the fronts being at almost 10mm.

The breaks are starting to slightly squeak, I got the truck used with about 24k miles and have put a little over 1k on it (I have no clue how the previous owner would come to a stop but I can only assume they slammed the brakes for it to already by giving the faint squeak)

Sounds like sand engrained in one of the pads. They are probably good to go for a long while.

Just because you have a squeak does not mean you need brakes. That is one of the most misunderstood things with brakes. What causes tue squeak? Brakes being cold(yes that is a thing), glazed brakes(if you dont know how to drive this will happen) and dirt and dust getting in the brakes. Sounds crazy but true. I myself have had the lovely squeak after going offroad wich simply leafs to dirt and dust so by this alone I suggest checking the brakes before assuming you need them.

You are correct on most of the sir. To my understanding the factory Motorcraft pads do have a lot of the stuff built in already. Also sometimes the aftermarket isn't quite up to Snuff compared to OEM for Quality Brakes believe it or not. That is something most people don't want to agree with but then again as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

Yes, plan on checking them out, before I replace them, I was a little bummed that I was already hearing the squeaking but hoping maybe it is just that and lube will resolve if need, appreciate the insight

Thank you all for the help, thinking it’s best for me just to ensure there’s plenty of pad left before ordering replacements. When the time comes, are any of you partial to a specific brand, type, etc? I don’t plan on doing any towing or any extreme off roading, mainly daily street use and it will be Livernois tuned come this weekend

Chris, you have been a wealth of knowledge. From what I’m hearing I still have some time to decide, I’ll get it checked still just to be sure. When the times comes, good to know there’s some quality options that won’t drain the bank.

Was just reading up on EBC and “yellow stuff” would seem to make most sense for a lot of us, do you know yet when they will make fitment for the Ranger? I’d likely go with those!

It is currently unknown on a release date but I am aware they are currently in the works
