If I didn't know the Ford assigned name for it, I'd have described it as concrete with green tint. 'Cactus' makes sense as a pairing to Gray, to account for and suggest the green.

I just ordered a Cactus ranger. At first, I wasn't so sure but it quickly grew on me. Granted, I'm going to get a color I like if I'm spending the money, but I am way far on the function over form scale. I want a color that looks decent when uncared for, dirty, dusty, unwaxed for a couple years. Silver is best for disguising dirtiness, but I bought a silver Sube Outback and have had it for 12 yrs. I don't want another decade commitment to silver.

The only thing I'm worried about is the total lack of contrast on the road or highway, through the eyes of crappy, distracted drivers. The color will essentially be invisible stealth in poor weather, lights being the only saving grace. Small concern, but I'd argue a real one.

I'll be adding a canopy (or, topper as I've learned other regions call them) as soon as possible. I'm trying to envision Cactus on Cactus or if I should dare mix and match. Black would work, but I'd prefer a little less baking in the sun, melting chocolate chip cookies and turning my hamburger buns rock hard while camping. Magnetic color to match the wheels would work, but again a dark, sun and heat trapping color. Decisions... I'll be pondering the canopy question over in that subforum soon.

I ordered a Ford Ranger Lariat Tremor in ā€œCACTUS GRAYā€. There was a Ford Bronco on the lot that claimed to be cactus gray, it looked like a flat gray color that was shiny. But every picture I have seen on the Internet, video commercial, or phone, has ranged from pure gray to seafoam green to light gray to a bluish gray green… Would I be wise to say I picked a color that changes rather than stuck to what i originally saw? I’m hoping I don’t have a Jordan almond colored truck delivered… NOR A CHICK COLOR. …LOL

OPINIONS?

I wasn't able to find any thing in the color to see in person so I went with a different color. Pics look good but these new colors change in different lighting.

Cactus Grey is an amorphous, magical color that means your truck always looks different depending on the climatic conditions. It's essentially a free bonus. Also, as somebody else said, it hides the dirt pretty well.

2021 Ford Ranger Tremor - Black
Ok, I'm the curious type, and looks like this wasn't asked earlier....at least in this thread

you have a 2021 in black, and you ordered a cactus grey.

May I ask whats up with that?
second truck?
hate the black?
just like spending money like a drunken sailor?
won the lottery?
still have cheques left, that must mean there is money left?
great trade in value making it worth it?

Long story short when I purchased a vehicle they only had black available when they released it. I went to the dealership to look at the new bronco just out of curiosity. The sales manager came up to me and asked me how my truck was doing. And I said I love everything about it but if I had to do it again I would’ve got a different color, Black is hard to keep and keep clean. He offered me $3000 more than my pay off, lower APR, a years less of financing. So I’m essentially trading in my vehicle for a different color and getting a newer vehicle and made a little money.

Somebody here has the ARE overland canopy/topper on their Ranger. My quick search from the can at work didn’t yield any results.
The ARE has a black graphic, maybe paint, that provides some contrast. I like the look. You could probably do something similar easily with any topper. Here is a pic of the topper on a F-150 Raptor.

Before pulling the trigger on my 2021 Ranger i was going back and forth with Black & Cactus Grey, after alot of consideration & looking up pictures online i decided to go with Cactus Grey. When i saw the truck in person i fell in love and was happy with my decision. Definitely not a chick color & it stands out on the road. The majority of the time i get compliments on my truck its because of the color. Heres a picture of mine for reference.

The color was my top pick and I don’t regret it at all.

I can also vouch for the difference in appearance based on weather, but I often get complimented on it by strangers. I felt it hid the dirt better and was something different than the usual modern colors. First thing I did was black out the chrome on mine, I thought it looked terrible, but there wasn’t another available that had the black package.

It always amazes me anytime I am at the auto body supply store to get paint mixed the colors they add to the mix to get the final color.

My 68 Barracuda I painted sublime green actually has a bright red in the mix.
thatā€˜s it. gray is one of the most difficult colors to reproduce. if not thE most complicated one… pretty shure the described effects that nobody can say what its like, where intended.

The human eye perceives color based on a variety of conditions. And each persons brain will interpret what the eye perceives differently as well. Light sources, environmental conditions, and individual experiences all play a factor in which color our brain tells us we are seeing. Back in the day when I was doing color reproductions for high end photography, I was advised not to drink orange juice in the morning because it would alter my color perception. Probably BS, but helps to make the point.

I chose Cactus Gray primarily to have something different then what we generally see around here. Lots of black, silver, and white vehicles. Liked the blue but my first Ranger and the Princess' Beetle were pretty close to that. The color gets lots of compliments and I'm not sick of it yet.

Some quick pics showing some color variation. And the Cactus on Cactus topper option.
