I know, everyone is above average. Some of the people I know that have the highest opinion of their skills are terrifying to drive with. I don't know you, will probably never drive with you, but just asserting that you're a great driver and don't get distracted and/or have superhuman perception simply isn't in itself very convincing. If everybody was as good at driving as they thought (and didn't need all the damn nanny stuff that doesn't have any purpose) we wouldn't have had almost 40k people die in cars last year. What's the solution? Probably self-driving cars because people suck at driving. Until then, doing the stuff we know is safer (reducing distractions, etc.) even when people are convinced they're the exception and don't need to do those things.I have been driving for over 50 years and all my vehicles came with a full compliment of gauges or I added them. I don't have to take my eyes off the road for my peripheral vision to detect that a gauge is reading out of the ordinary. It is then that I look and make a determination if something is wrong. I would like to think everyone that has gauges isn't just starring at them as they drive down the road.
