Yakima overhaul HD Molle Panels

Has anyone been able to squeeze the Yakima overhaul HD “mid” size molle panel on a 5ft bed? Or if you are using the “short” mole panel, what is the actual measured panel width?

A post from a customer on e-trailer said the actual mid size width is 50 in, not 54 as stated on the Yakima website. My bars are currently about 44” wide and I may be able to get another 2 inches between bars, but 6 more inches seems impossible with this rack on my bed.

I’m reluctant to use the Yakima “short” molle panel and bring my bars in to 40” or less. I put canoes up there and think that may be too narrow.

I have held off on buying these panels because they just seem to short.

I have been toying around with the idea of buying something similar to this and using t-nuts to mount it to the side bar and than 2 self tappers (or similar) to hold the bottom corners to the uprights. It is probably to long, but a cut off wheel and some flat black spray paint would fix that, for the price of 280 bucks for a pair it seems reasonable...

I haul kayaks on my cross bars and fail to see why Yakima did not come up with a design for the panels like the side bars that adjust in length (like every other brand out there has done in some fashion).

I am heading down past a rack attack later this week, maybe I will see if they have a pair in stock I can get my hands on to measure.

Curious about this as well. Any update? AI tells me the mid panel will fit the ranger. My overhaul HD isn’t here yet, so I’m not able to measure.

Yep. I went a similar route with Go Rhino molle panels $80 each. It worked great. no photos t share though. I ended up selling the whole set up to get a camper top
