Transmission slipping out of gear?

First of all, I am going by a description given by my wife who has been driving the truck most often.

The truck appears to drop out of gear while in drive. Gas pedal increases RPMs but no acceleration as if it is in neutral. It has happened 3 times. The first time was on an interstate and after pulling off the road and restarting the truck it was fine. Two other times it self corrected without a shutdown.

Anyone else experience this? I like to have some knowledge to be able to speak intelligently at the dealer when I take it in.

It is a 2021 with less than 2k miles.

does it happen when the engine is warm or cold?

a few times what has happened, to me, after a cold startup and pulling out of the driveway is I push the gas and it stays at idle speed for about 2 seconds then it revs to where I'm holding the pedal. couple times that was 5+k RPM. I tried explaining it to the dealer and all I got was a blank stare. after getting TSB 20-2339 performed there hasn't been any occurrences

Had something like that happen to me with my 2019 Ranger. A valve body in the transmission was sticking. I also got a P0751 PCM error code with it. Mine happened at less than 5k miles.

Not the best of feelings when your new truck does not want to move under it's own power. Thankfully I was less than a block away from home and it re-engaged enough to get me back after a restart at the stop sign. Then stuck in neutral sensation at home the next day when started up. Thankfully Ford sent a flatbed to pick it up and had me fixed in a few days.

I had a check engine light and a code in the Ford Pass app. Also scanned it with my phone and an adapter. Having that info was handy in telling the dealer when I called.

Unfortunately, there have been no codes thrown that I know of. I'll find my OBDII reader and see if there are any codes that didn't manifest into a dash light if that's possible.

It's something that has happened 3 times in 1700 miles or so, so diagnosing it without it being a common issue will probably be difficult. I am hoping that it does eventually throw a code. At this point, I think I'd be wasting my time taking it to the dealer even though I trust them to do proper work and diagnosis.

You should either take the truck into the dealer and have them check the trans fluid level or crawl up under it and check it yourself. Ford has had issues with this transmission being underfilled at the factory by as much as two quarts. I was having random odd issues with mine consistent with what many Mustang owners (same transmission) had reported. When I checked it it was low. The dealer had to put in about 1.5 quarts to top it off.
