I like to keep track of the depreciation of all my assets (if you consider a vehicle an asset, whatever....separate convo). I'm a huge data nerd and track pretty much everything.

To use one source to keep things balanced, I used KBB. I use the Very Good for condition (even though the condition really Excellent) and take the mid-level value for Private Party (which is the mid-point of the Private Party Range)

Anyway....interesting that the value has actually appreciated in value over $2k since the last time I checked (which was the very end of last year before 202 crapped the bed).

I only have 3 data points right now but here they are with the dates:

DateValueChange
08/13/19$33,681 -
12/31/19$29,463-$4,218 (-12.5%)
07/03/20$31,702+$2,239 (+7.6%)

Looking back at previous vehicles I tracked values for, fluctuations are normal (up and down). But usually, over a year's time, there is generally a steeper decline, especially in the first few years.

It seems that perhaps used vehicles are retaining value (perhaps due to the pandemic/unemployment issues), and/or the Ranger is doing pretty well with resale values as well.

One caveat that could have a sizable effect: I've only added about 2k miles since the last valuation. YMMV.
