In may of 2021 I took posession of a new 2021 xlt tremor ranger.
Everything was normal operation wise until a few weeks ago.
The truck started up vigorously for the first few months but then started to start up with more hesitation and occasionally not at all.
So I bring the truck to the dealer. They are telling me everything is working perfectly.
Has anyone had this issue and what should I tell the dealer to look for?

If you have a battery charger put it on for 4 to 6 hours and then check it again. My hunch is you got a battery that could be defective or your intelligent charging system is out of wack. The top up and results will prove or disprove that theory. Let us know how it goes

This is one of those issues that only the daily driver will experience.
May not be reproduced by the service dept unless they are driving the truck for a few days.
Sigh!

If you have a bad cell in the battery service dept can test for that. More than one member on here has had defective battery’s already. Wouldn’t surprise me if there are more.

Just a FYI, our intelligent charging system only charges to 75% of total battery capacity. That’s a setting you can get at In Forscan. I changed mine to 90% some months ago. So if you think your at full charge with alternator it’s not true. That’s why I suggested a remote top up to see if that makes a difference

That seems very odd. So weird why Ford would do that. Is there any logic I am missing? I assume we have an AGM in there but still doesn't make sense.

The reasoning behind this from Ford is this type of battery will last longer if not charged to 100%. But will all the electronics in these trucks the draw of power is pretty high even if just sitting there.

What module and code is this charging feature mentioned in Forscan?

Yeah I dunno, 90% sounds more reasonable. Good call. I think I need to just look into that forescan tool already. Between that and the fake engine noise; seems worth it.

You can use it for 2 months for free. After that it’s a small fee to get longer registered use from it. Seeing how everyone in my family drives Fords I went with lifetime registration. It’s already paid for itself from my truck and my sons truck adjustments

It was the starter.
I got a little lucky.
When they didn't find anything wrong they sent it over to the aesthetics dept for a detailing and it was there that they had issues starting it up.
So it went back to the garage and they found an anomaly with the starter.
After changing the starter it runs like it did off the lot.

Funny because it is the one thing that worried me about the truck.
Im too old to remember to deactivate that damn auto start/stop feature every time I get in, and was sure it would burn the starter out prematurely.

there is a post floating around that if you plug a night light into the 110 plug in the back it will disable the auto start/stop without you doing anything. (I think someone said it needed to be polarized connecter where one of prongs is bigger than the other so it plugs in only one way).
