I posted before about my cap search, but ultimately I'll have to go softopper due to weight concerns towing my travel trailer, don't want to push those weight limits in any way. So that goes now to security - soft tops are great but can be cut into. Has anyone used any kind of alarm inside them to detect/alert? I could use a motion alarm in general on the truck, or even a wired dash cam inside that films/streams alert and video upon any motion. Wondering if there's anything else out there.

Another question some who could help may ask is if this alarm system intended for 24/7 use or only when traveling with good in the bed?

There are probably some solutions out there but may need additional power from an aux battery.

Probably activated when parked. I think my current dash cam can do this when hardwired, so perhaps I'll look into that a solution

Are thieves actually deterred by an alarm anymore? Or, are just looking to be alerted that your stuff has been stolen.

Knife goes in...alarm goes off...damage done...
Knife goes in...alarm goes off...I'm at the truck within a minute with my firearm...theft of bed contents prevented. Insurance will take care of the top damage, not worried about that.

I’m not sure how it is in PA but here, if I want my topper or any other aftermarket accessory covered by my auto insurance, I have to get a custom parts and equipment (CPE) endorsement - similar to a rider for jewelry on a home policy. Make sure you’re covered.

The only thing you didn't list is a decibel limit type alarm (sound activated,) but that is just a can of worms in my opinion compared to a motion based system. I think your best bet is mounting some motion sensors because a Ring type system will be internet dependent and it would suck to lose your alarm in rural areas.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with not because I'll have this issue myself but I'm always amused by novel solutions!
