If everyone who participates here started running ad blockers, then were are you going to go for your Ranger 5g information and entertainment?
Counterpoint

I'll set it up myself. I'll run it for free. I own several servers. I'm well aware of what it costs and it's not much. Let me tell you something. A single small banner on this web site pays for it for a month. Anything beyond that is profit. And web sites with obtrusive overlay style ads is just obscene monetization that people should not be putting up with.

You know what gives a forum value? It sure as hell isn't the host who runs the software. It's the people who participate. Those who give of their experiences and info for free so that others may benefit. Or laugh. Or feel among friends. Whatever. What is this forum without the people? it's nothing. Yet you know what forums do? They claim ownership of everything you graciously post and monetize it any way possible.

I come from a day when the internet was run by and for hobbyists and there were zero advertisements. It's too late late to go back to that now that business has sunk it's greedy claws in and in some cases got so big it controls the world. (ahem, google) Mostly I blame AT&T for posting the first internet advertisement back in 1995. Hell I'm from before that time. I ran a dial up BBS... you know, with modems, hahah. And for the record I paid for it myself. I had hobbyists call in from around the US and post messages and exchange info.

Point being, nobody should EVER feel bad about blocking advertisements. That said I think I do have 3 privately owned forums whitelisted in my adblocker. These are forums I love that don't go overboard with ads - they literally look straight out of the 90's with a single banner at the top of the page. That is all that is acceptable to me.

Ok there's my soap box. :D

Well, most of the ads don’t bother me, and I don’t want to cause any problems, I just don’t want to see vulgar ads. I know I can keep scrolling, but this particular one is very persistent.:frown:

There are exceptions of course, but quality websites and popular websites usually find a good balance. If you have a website you frequent, then email them and tell them if certain ads or ad placements are more of a hinderance and interfering with the experience.
Pretty sure that's the point of this thread.

Just something to think about before you start running an ad blocker:
Something to think about before not running an ad blocker: that industry does a shit job at policing itself. It's all too common for malicious code to get pushed down the ad channel, and after a few layers of resellers everyone involved just throws up their hands and claims that it's not their responsibility. You want to send a little picture or text ad, fine. But I'm just not going to run your JavaScript monstrosity, and if your business model depends on money from bottom feeder scammers you should get a new business model while you still have a shred of self respect.

Now I'll get off my soapbox.

NoScript is awesome.

I actually allow Ranger5G.com and have it whitelisted. But I disallow the M2.ai they try to run. If you look up that domain, it's called... I shit you not, it's called "MonetizeMore". Their slogan is "Ready to spike your ad revenue?" It's software for web sites cramming so many ads that they need special software to control all of it.

Some javascript processes are really bad. Like doubleclick.net, once launched it calls about 10 other java processes.
