How in the world do I remove the round rubber “buttons” that hold my factory floormats down to the carpet. I just want to remove them to clean and put them back. It looks like a rubber button, but its not. I don’t want to pry it up. The (very thin!) rubber mats came with my 22 ranger XLT.

lift gently right at the grommet while pressing the center bit down. You just don't want to pull the pins out of the carpet.
What he said.

I pulled the Ford slush mats out right away since I already had a set of Husky X-Act fit liners.

Slide 4-fingers underneath the mat, and from the side of the mat towards the center of the button while holding the center-button down with your thumb and lift up at an angle. Repeat this for the second button.

Don't listen to these guys saying crazy things like "pull it". I did that and the whole floor panel came up, to the point where I could see pavement from inside the cab. Take it to the dealer. They have a special floormat puller tool they use.
