Hi folks,
I had an awful experience with Bakflip and want to share my story so you'll avoid the same. Let's start with some background info. I'm a US military Officer who just moved to the UK. To accommodate the narrow english roads, I sold my Raptor and bought a 2021 Super Crew Ranger in Cactus Grey from a US dealer with the intent to have it sent to me as the military will pay for it. The truck was shipped to my brother's house and the plan was for him to take it to the international shipping port and have it shipped to me. I had a Factory installed Bakflip X2 on the raptor and really liked it. So I ordered the same for the new Ranger.
Upon installation, there were big problems. The mechanism that secures the bed top wouldn't grab correctly and there was a large ridge in the middle of the cover-see pics. I emailed BakFlip and notified them of the issues on Nov 12th. The truck was scheduled to be delivered to the shipping port on Dec 6th, so a resolution had to be reached before then. I made sure to let them know this from the initial email.
On Nov 19th, a rep reached out and asked for pictures and the serial number-I'd already submitted pictures with my initial email. On the 22nd, I reached out to them again because no one had given me any info on what was going on with my case. I was told the "Manufacturer and warranty department" were reviewing the case and they were waiting on a response.
On Nov 29th, I reached out to Bakflip again and tried to get an update. On Nov 30th, I called their customer service number (paying international call rates) and was told there was still no response from the manufacturer/warranty department. The service rep told me there were no replacement products in stock to ship me, I even asked for a similar model but no luck there either. I asked if they would be wiling to ship the item to me in the UK considering the situation. I even offered to pay half the cost. I was informed they "Can't ship internationally" and the only option was a refund AFTER I send back the defective product. I asked that she elevate the case to a manager so we could find an acceptable resolution. No manager ever reached out to me.
On Dec 6th, I emailed them again to inform them my truck had shipped-now the only way to resolve this was international shipping. I had to call in again and finally spoke to a manager who refused to ship internationally, even with my offer to cover half the cost. I asked why they would want me to return a defective product- he said so they could use it for spare parts. After some back and forth, he agreed to refund my money without returning the defective bed cover. Ironically, a useless replacement part showed up at my brother's house a week later. They never said a word about shipping me anything. It was pretty clear to me that at Bakflip, the left hand is oblivious to what the right hand is doing. I gave them ample time to resolve the issue. I had to continually prod them for updates. I even offered to split the cost of shipping a replacement. I'll never be giving them my business again. If you're considering a Bakflip product, pray they don't ship you a defective one.
