point well taken. Time was a person could work fulltime @ Ford, afford a house and a boat. Put the kids thru college. Not sure if it is that way of late.
I don't know that there is any "blue collar" job that can do all that in the US anymore. But that's more a commentary on society as a whole.

Google says the average UAW worker makes about $63k year. Which is pretty good for an unskilled laborer.

The shrinking of the middle class, the struggle for many to achieve the American Dream (whatever that may be) , growing up in a blue collar city for many making good pay in the factories it might be trading in for a new car every 2 or 3 yrs, taking an annual vacation to a warm place , saving to put the kids thru college or even moving to that new house in the burbs with a dishwasher for the misses. When my father who worked his entire career for Bethlehem steel he would get me summer employment in the plant with the condition that I would return to school in the fall, the money was outstanding but I had no intention of making a career of it and it all ended a decade later with shutdown.

That was the start. Now we're witnessing the end.

It's not entirely society's fault. We're to blame as well. The kids I try to train that grew up comfortable are useless. They try, honestly they do, but I'm genuinely surprised at the fact some of them can tie their boots and get out the door.

As a representative of the middle class I can honestly say we helped them kill us. Hell, half of us have turned on their own.

Wow, $63K is amazing if they make that. GM CEO makes about $30,000,000 per year, about 476 times what the $63k/year worker makes. Ford CEO makes about $22,000,000 / year, 350 times what the $63k / yr worker. Stellantis CEO $25,000,000 / year, 396 times that of the $63k worker. The ever larger gaps between the pay of those who actually make the cars, and the pay of the big chiefs are obscene. Any giant company which locked its CEO Pay to a multiplier of the pay, say 15x, of the lowest paid worker would find they never ever have any shortage of highly skilled and very invested workers. They would never either lack for excellent brilliant CEO's. They would also have tons more money available for R&D, marketing and cost control of the product. Unbridled greed has always been known as a vice, and for good reason.

Yea but that is what the pay is and your are competing against other companies for the top CEO's you have to pay it. Sometimes you get a dud. I do not like it but it is not my company. I mean it is up to board of directors if they think someone is worth it. It is all about the stock price. The problem is investors now a days only care about making money here and now and do not care about the companies future. Lets destroy a company to make money now. I mean most CEO's are just kicking the ball down the road. Let the next guy deal with it. They make so much money in a few years they get let go what do they care.

I mean look at actors and sport athletes and it is discusting. The same people who play because we love the sport and would do it without pay, yea right. Look at Aaron Rodgers who signs contracts that will always make him the highest payed quarterback even when he has a bad year. So much pay it cripples the team from having a good team.
Would he restructure to have a better team and win a superbowl, no his ego wants to be the highest payed quarterback. It is all about money.

I think maybe I got a little side tracked.

Better yet. Let's run a monthly lottery for all of Ford's plant employees. Winner gets to be CEO for the month, along with all the benefits.

How much do you think a guy with a high school diploma and a week's worth of training should be paid for "Ding! Bolt is torqued!" $30/hour seems pretty generous to me. Hell the average income in Wayne County Michigan, home of MAP and where our trucks were built, is only $27.9k/year. The average guy building Rangers makes double the amount his neighbor makes. Seems like they're probably doing alright.

Where did we as a individuals get this overinflated sense of self worth? Every idiot with a Google certificate thinks they should be making 6 figures a year.
